Tolkien ripped off a lot of European mythology himself, so by going "back to the source", you're gonna inevitably come off as if you're ripping off Tolkien. Ogres, trolls, goblins, are all "genuine" mythologies, so are elves, staffs, magic swords, as well as epic wars of world endings
