A review by a troll

Wait, how is he a troll? Aren't trolls the dudes that say racist stuff in the comment sections on the internet? This dude is just saying minecraft is bad (which is IMO an okay game, needs the millionaire mod to be fun).

He is trolling, watch any other video that he makes.

Didn't really seem much like a troll to me either.

On a side note, Minecraft seriously needs to have more to it. There's no firearms, or driveable vehicles, lol...

yeah I never played mincraft. I don't see Minecraft as the holy grail of gaming. And I don't buy really in to that "hype".

So with saying that while watching that review I think he really has some valid point when thinking about it from my unbiased position.

I probably would never give away money for such a product. Regardless how many "gamers" think its the best game ever made eventually. - I do think however that the game CAN be very fun I am sure. But com on ... the criticism seems pretty valid.

What's so special about it?

Building stuff i guess- but that gets old fast. (unless you have a LEGO fetish or something)

And the rest? The world has nothing in it, it's empty, you can't even talk to npc's.

What? The randomly generated landscape?

REVOLUTIONARY - TES 1 arena and daggerfall had that and these games are from mid 90's

And that was (compared to this) awesome random content- dungeons, village outskirts, enclaves etc.

You could trade , talk, get jobs, kill stuff

I just don't get it.

It's fun to build stuff or to use tnt to explode big, fancy holes into the ground. I can understand that not everyone is a fan of that, but I personally love it.

Enough to pay money for it ? And that is actually the thing. YOu konw quite a few free 2 play games offer more "fun" then Minecraft. Or at least motivation to play them. I am not saying it is a bad game at all. But compared to other sand box games I am not sure if it has the same quality. But yeah. I guess just as you said. Different people different taste.

Yea, I bought it for 10 euro long time ago (in alpha-state, which means I get all future updates for free). It's p.cool on our Minecraft server, where we are a bunch of people, building stuff.

I really don't know if other games offer more or not, etc. and I don't really care, because I like the Minecraft graphicstyle. Saw some of these other games, like Terraria, but this just didn't hooked me up.

yes I realize that you dig that kind of "style" but talking about it from the perspective of an artist I have to say it looks ... outright shit. Sorry. Cant explain it in a different way.

I mean I am sure the people working on minecraft have either tried to save costs here or they did it on purpose because it is pretty clear that they lack a good art department. Which is something the "troll review" as well mentioned and I can completely agree with that part. If you look at some "old" classis regardless if 2D or 3D then you can see in many that they tried to go for a certain style. Mario Cart, Super Mario N64 or some games on the PC. Terraria is another example. Would not have hurted to go with visuals that looked more similar to something like Gouhls n Ghosts

Now compare this

While now both look from the graphics very similar (you know sprites and such) they are miles away in the "quality" of the art-direction/design and how those visuals are represented. And I don't think this has something to do with hardware limitation (not in this age ...) as it all comes down to the people with the right skill or time to work on the whole direction of the art. And to stick with it. Terraria/Minecraft have their own charm. But I am somewhat convinced that a very skilled designer/artist could have done much more with it to push it in a direction that is much more pleasing to the eyes (I am not talking about "graphic" here in the sense that you make out of Minecraft a Crysis game now).

I curse my "eyes" and "perception" because as designer/artist it really hurts my feelings and eyes when I see such stuff like Minecraft, Mount & Blade or Terraria (yes I exaggerate here a bit). Making visuals is one thing but making them in a way to please the eye is a whole different affair :P

This is the best review of Minecraft ever. It hits each point right on the head, solid all around. I love these guys so much.

On the topic of art, imagine how a half-decent art department would have done it... Oh wait, someone already did that:

I have only played Terraria, didn't like it much, was playing it connected with some firends, got bored after two hours and started grieffing them and then it became lots of fun. But I think it was only fun because I was playing with people I personally knew, so they tried to stop me in creative ways instead of just banning me or something.

Trolling? It seemed depressingly accurate. I bought the game for a few friends and myself back in Alpha, with the hope that Notch would continue to develop it into something more than its currents state. Other than fully implementing multiplayer, he didn't.

Still, we had some fun with it -- build some stuff, hunted out dungeons, added plenty of mods, started a server.

It was an adequate distraction, even if it was a disappointment at the end.

[Edit]

Alright, after watching a few other of his videos . . . I can see the troll. My God.

He's insane . . . He's Propser.

I wish minecraft would have that kind of appeal then I would buy it even without thinking.

TBG are "trolls" in all of their reviews EXCEPT this one. They're a bunch of guys pretending to be the generic xXx420BROGAMERxXx stoner Xbox 360 audience. Even their forum is all in on the act, if you check it for yourself. It's really just all satire for the people smart enough to recognize they're just kidding.

This review however, I believe was done by ROCKCOCK64 as an honest review because no other site was saying the truth about how much Notch ripped people off with all his promises about Minecraft. And ends up having almost zero random "funny" shit in it in exchange for being serious. Notice how at the end he mentions he should stick to his normal (xXx420BROGAMERxXx mentality) review style for next time.

Could someone define "troll" for me, as after watching the video all I could gather were valid points and criticism where criticism was due.
