Abandoned Places

Well, be sure to check out my page on deviantart.com. I take a lot of pictures of abandoned places, factories and the like. Will be uploading tons of pics to the page in about a week, two weeks, as soon as I get the scans from the magazine in which I'm currently doing... uh, a probation job in order to get a union's card for photoreporters.

There are also a few pics from Romania.

Wow, I guess it makes big impression...
Personally I never had a tour through ghost town... Any of you, except The Commissar?

Heh, on that site from the OP:

After 10 years experience in the field of exploring abandoned buildings I thought I had seen it all.
On the second floor at the end of each corridor there is a door. Behind this door lies a large room with several toilets. I had gone inside and opened a window to look outside when I heard a loud bang just behind me : the draft had slammed the door ... and it had no handle ... and it was a solid door and despite all my efforts it didn't move at all. 2 floors high. Sure I could start yelling out of the window and try to get someones attention, but that would end in the firebrigade smashing the door for me ... not exactly something to be proud of. Luckily there were some more toilet doors with the same handles. So I started wrenching the handles, but without tools I couldn't get the rusty pin out. Fortunately one of the last handles broke off after a Bruce Lee type maneuver. I simply opened the slammed door and walked FREE !
This door handle travels with me from now on.

Photography is not for the faint-hearted, apparently.

Seriously, I would've had to change my shorts if that had happened to me. All alone...abandoned hospital...doors slamming on their own...I would've had Session 9 flashbacks.

OT: Wasn't that abandoned hospital in VtM: Bloodlines just awesome?

Sounds like a dumb photographer/infiltrator. I always take my cell phone and my trusty steel-capped DM boots in case I have to kick something down.

OT: Not as good as the abandoned orphanage/asylum from Thief 3

Uh, Wooz, I will defend Henk.

I dont think he's the type of a brutal-blow-it-up-and-smash-every-obstacle-LOL type of photographer. He's rather an artist, just look at his photos.

Oh, and would you have the guts to go to JLemaire Institute at night?

Did you just say that Wooz isn't an artist? Someone's so gonna get smacked...

There is something weird about this place. The sound of footsteps followed me through the corridors and staircases, as a delayed echo, stopping when I did and keeping a distance when I walked.

It wasn't a threatening sound ... rather the sound of some forgotten lunatic cautiously following me.

When I left the building I took a last photo of the window through which I had jumped. Exactly when I pressed the shutter button my insane companion showed up screaming a soundless cry !

I don't think I can take this guy seriously as an artist after this.

Dude. I didn't say you should go into an abandonned building, high on crack wielding a sledgehammer and wreck the place. I said sturdy boots and a crowbar may prove useful if you want to get into someplace, or out of a room. Sometimes, you may have to kick out doors.

Yeah, well, I study graphics at the fine arts academy, and work as a photoreporter in a well-known and prestigious magazine in Poland. In any case, look at my photos, and we'll talk about "art" m'kay?

Oh, and would you have the guts to go to JLemaire Institute at night?

Believe it or not, I've done "scarier" things. Breaking into a working heating plant, climbing a ladder four storeys, and running away from security to spraypaint a rooftop wall is one of them.

Why does some peoople want to bash me for what I say?
Why does some peoople act so hight and mighty?

Nice pics Wooz, BTW. And being a professional photographer does NOT give you the power to decide whats art and whats not.

Nor does I have it. I want to share my opinion and:

" In any case, look at my photos, and we'll talk about "art" m'kay? "

Because they disagree with you. If they'd agree with you, they'd obviously not attack you for it.

No, it doesn't. But following art classes does give him more validity in discussing art.

I don't recall him ever saying he had the ability or power to decide absolutely what art was. All he said was that you should look at his pictures and THEN come back and talk about art.

Please at least read more carefully before going in the offense (something with "Why does some peoople want to bash me for what I say?")

Thanks.

What? I didn't say I am the Ultimate Art Authority, nor did I say I disqualify the guy's photography.

My point is, in case you haven't noticed, that being absolutely clueless in matters of
infiltrating buildings and photography, you have little credibility in defending the utter twit that went into an abandoned facility without:

a) a partner
b) a cell-phone
c) something to force doors open

It matters little if he's An Artist or not, and has absolutely jack shit to do with art.

And ropes. Lots of ropes, don't forget ropes.

Also, cell phones tend to fail in the underground, so you might get into shit even if you have it. And 2nd floor, what is it, bah :D

Good call on going in a group, Wooz, tho...

Anyway,

Wooz, are you going to post photos, other than what you're doing for the respectable magazin anytime soon? I'd like to see those... :)
