Afterfall Polish dev blog update

The first thing I thought when I saw those screens was "is that doom 3?".

I've got to agree with morbus here. I can't see the game being polished and playable after making the mammoth change from this:

to this:

I've lost all faith in this project.

I think this screenshot looks the most reminiscent of Doom 3.

I don't know if it will turn out to be a decent game or not, but I will at least reserve a bit more hope than I did for Fallout 3 before its release.

Guys, guys ... be a little bit more optimistic here. This will be the closest game to the Fallout universe and even they cut some of the promised features, still we will have great game.
As for the screens they are WIP, the guys from intoxicate are using them for:
At this time, we are working on "new" bunkers in world of AF. We know, they are clean and sterile, but that is an idea and they are part of something that we won't tell you about, but we can show you how WIP looks like.
now please tell as:
- what elements you like and why?
- what elements you dislike and why?
So stop being pessimistic and and start using your post apocalyptic minds to give ideas :).
P.S.
As long as they are 3 of us in the ENG forum in the afterfall community, we will not get proper feedback and information. So come join in and start sharing your opinion!

Because they almost had the whole thing canceled because of lack of funding, and they simply don't have the money to make great graphics (like those) AND have 20 GOOD people writing (in Polish and English, at least), AND have at least 5 people with solid ideas surveying the whole thing making sure it's built right from the start.
How can you tell all this? Noone knows how much money do they have, but they assure they do have enough. They may not have 20 people good in writing but there are a few people who have been doing all the writing during past 3 years. Note that they have been doing it without being paid so for the owners of Intoxicate it's like having part of game made for free. Also costs of making a game are a bit lower than in US and I don't think money will be spent on any hollywood actor to voice 2 sentences.

Being reluctant to praise something is ok but you guys here are pessimistic about AF whatver you hear about it: good features - unrealistic and game will suck because they are not true, good graphic - the game will suck because they are making good graphics, they have funding - the game will suck because the have no money to make game(!?) and the investors will make the game suck anyway...

One a side note: I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here but Andrzej Koloska said they could have long ago abbadon making AF to be hired as a team for some other project, they had a few propositions. So why the hell would they now make the game that sucks after fighting for it so long?

I think after all that "Fallout 3 is not Fallout but it is a good game so let's join hands and change our attitude" bullshit I have seen around here, if one software does not deserve to be called names then it is this.

This does not claim to be a sequel, this does no claim to be a Fallout, this does not say that it will be true to anything. Let's just support these guys, ok ?

Well, I support these guys and want to hear more from them but so far, all I've seen is some pretty screenshots and no game mechanics whatsoever. I've learned to ignore PR bullshit, even more so when it's poorly done, so until I see the game in action or at least read an extensive article on its features, I'll stay cautious ( and go back to playing SNES/Genesis games because they, at least, delivered ).

Nah, that's just bullshit. From my side, at least, no optimism for nobody unless they show they deserve it. Because hey! I, too, can deliver a huge list of features and promises, and a better one if you ask me, and then what? Just because I show pretty graphics and tell you "it's gonna be ok" I deserve optimism? No way!

If anything, they starting to sound like Bethesda, promising loads and delivering (or showing) zilch.

As long as their apparent interest in the ENG community remains the same as it has been up til now, there won't be much more people in the ENG forums...

Yes, I don't know how much money they have, but Nicolas games isn't known for its huge loads of money flowing from everywhere. A project of THAT magnitude, and please remember what we're talking about, is something that even huge editors with multiple studious would have trouble in developing with that kind of graphical quality. Now think how much would it take for those editors to risk actually giving it a shot.

Furthermore, them telling me they have enough means pretty much nothing at this point. They could say they have all the money in the world for all I care. It's not being pessimistic, it's being clearheaded and reasonable. The original Afterfall is a HUGE thing, put graphics on top of it, and you have something that's out of reach for pretty much every editor. And take into account the worldwide economic crisis, the investors fear (or whatever) and make your math.

First, they are writing in Polish. Second, they've shown zero proof of their quality to the English community (I don't know if they've shown anything to the Polish community). And third, it'd take an additional amount of time to translate everything to English, with no guarantee of quality whatsoever.

You think they won't have voice acting? Ahah. Maybe not full voice acting (maybe) but they will have voice acting, unless the guys leading the thing are just out of their minds. Otherwise why spend resources on catering to the graphic whores only to throw them out in making them read huge amounts of text?

Now that I mention it, the turn based combat is still in, right?

And why don't you shut your pretty mouth for a second and read something instead of saying stupid things like that? First, "you guys"? I'm not "you guys" and just so you know I was a huge fanboy of afterfall back when they weren't with nicolas, when they were releasing faqs and stuff, I was hyped as hell, even with the graphics they had at the time (which were worse than these, most likely). But I always thought they had funding, and a good funding at that. When I found out they were working for free, I kind of lost most of my hopes. I said it in their forums here too. And then they went and cut features and bumped up their graphics and found an editor and all that. No hope back, quite the contrary.

Have you even seen what they promised in the first place? I never said it was unrealistic myself, I actually believe that it's quite possible to accomplish something of that magnitude with a pain team with a strong lead.

Maybe because they... hum. I don't want to insult anyone. Buttom line is, people often fight very hard for things that aren't the best for them, or for others.

Because you say so? Nah. Right now, for me, 90% of the people working on/leading game projects are just corporate fucks who don't give a fuck about the quality. They just care about the sales, and if to reach a good amount of sales they have to put in some quality (most of the times they don't), then they do it, because they can. Fallout 3 deserves to be called names. Sure. But so does every other game that fucks up and fails to meet the standards. Because that's what matters: meeting standards. If they'd promised a straight forward Jagged Alliance clone then people would be like "ok, that's nice if they do it right". And if then they'd bump up the feature list and presented what they are presenting NOW people would probably be orgasming all over the place because "wow, this is shaping up to be much more than we thought it's gonna be!". Not the other way around.

Yeah and no wonder. Afterfall has burned a lot of bridges with outright unfriendly treatment of the press and fans internationally, and - and this is more important that you seem to think - a simply unrealistic list of promised features that they'll never make.

NMA is still supportive of this project, and plenty of people here follow it with interest. But I don't see why anyone should feel obliged to be overly positive about it. It's simply burned through quite a bit of good will since being announced, and people are significantly less interested now than they were years ago. Whose fault is that? You seem to be blaming us, it just doesn't work that way.

You got me wrong, I don't want anyone here to be overly positive about it but I neither see a reason why should some people make overly negative comments in every occasion.

In my opinion the few screens of location WIP are not even worth a newspost. The sreenshots have graphics on averange level of games using modern technologies. There is not much to discuss (and so the sreens are barely discussed). Yet, it becomes a great reason for some FUD. There is really no freaking reason why good graphics mean a bad game. Whether they are making a good complex RPG or a buggy console shooter they still should make the graphical level of the best they can. Long ago it was clear how high this level was going to be as it could be seen in some high resolution models (you may not have seen them though :P)

Also this:
And yeah, Lexx, their international PR is a disaster area. Always has been.
is also FUD as there are no PR actions going on as far as I know, not in Poland, nor worldwide.

Some complain that devs don't post on english forum but posts in Polish part have always been mostly answers to questions in long discussions started by community or just crap-talk. There is a devblog that has been updated only in Polish but it is obvious that developers write their devblog notes in their own language, it is going to be (at least partly) translated to english in a couple of days. Still, devblog is not for PR but just for fans.

You guys should also remember that a lot has changed in their team since they were bought by Nicolas Games. They claimed many times on polish boards that this is going to have a high budget. They hired many professionals since then and i'm pretty sure that there are also new writers doing Higher quality writing for them. :)
Also they didn't abandon

I love you guys hehe :) don't be afraid, we're not doing Doom3, Fallout 4, or Sci-Horror FPS here. Those screens you see it's WIP from 'new bunker'.

here you can see other WIP screens from other locations:

Just wait for new screens and information's about the game itself so you'll be able to judge us.

It's sad that our world-wide PR will start in 5-6 month. For now - we cant tell anything.

Morbus you have right and I understand you, but...you don't know everything ;) Just give us time to prove that Afterfall will be polished CRPG game.

so until I see the game in action
you will be able to play the game before you buy it
