Age of Decadence Sneak Peek on RPGVault

Q: How do they know it's me?

A: Sometimes they don't, sometimes they do. When they don't, they come after your guild. So, if you come "home" one day and everyone's dead (that actually happened to one of the play testers), it's not a glitch; it's something you did.

So, if something happens in the game world, it is a direct consequence of the player's actions?
Or lack thereof. Some events will start unfolding as you play the game, and you may interfere and alter the outcome, or do nothing and watch them to unfold.

If that sounds too fancy, here is a simpler explanation. Some events will require your active participation and will not start until you sign up (a typical quest). Some events will take place with or without you, triggered by different things (time, you leaving a town, betraying a faction, etc). Without your involvement such quests will be solved automatically and a pre-defined outcome will be selected. With your involvement, it's completely up to you how you handle them. Something like that.

Btw, if someone cares, we are considering changing the interface, so you may want to see this 16-page thread for details:

test3warmpw5 looks peachy. I always thought you needed a new UI and something different for the dialog and general text box, i was afraid to say it since i knew it would delay the game... oh well :)

Which is why I asked the Codex to design it for me. They have mad skillz and time, I have neither, so it's a win/win scenario.

that's what i did and got flamed for it.

funny, that they do want to change it now AND they asked to community to chip in, as i suggested back then.

wonderful.

Do you have some reading comprehension problem that I'm not aware of, SuAside?

From the original thread where the game was first mentioned:
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19190

Some guy: What thing about just polishing the GUI a bit ...
... It's just that polishing the GUI even just a bit could do wonders to the enjoyability of the game.
Polishing the GUI could do wonders to the first opinion...

My response: Something here tells me you don't like the GUI. Yes, I'm a psychic. So, why won't you design something and post it here? If your idea is good, I'll consider using it. Fair enough?

Your response: man, you sure know how to motivate people to help you! i applaud thee.

Unfortunately, nothing happened as most people are more comfortable bitching than doing something. Anyway, a few days ago, pretty much the same thing happened at the Codex (I posted the link earlier). Some guy said that the GUI sucks; here is my reply:

"First of all, thanks for the efforts. Second, nothing is sacred in the game, i.e. I'm willing to consider replacing anything with something better. The only problem is we don't have time. We are busy as it is, and I can't afford to lose a month playing with different interface concepts that may or may not work.

So, here is a deal. If someone thinks that he/she can improve our interface or make a new one, do it and we'll gladly consider it. We'll gladly work with someone who can redesign all interfaces and help us improve the game. Fair enough?"

As you can see, I said almost exactly the same thing I said here 6 months earlier (in other words, my position hasn't changed all of a sudden). So, what exactly are you bitching about and why?

... AND they asked to community to chip in, as i suggested back then.
You suggested?

here we go again...

not afaik.
VDweller said:
oversimplifying, are we?

let me do some oversimplifying as well then, while we're at it: someone points out a problem, you say "wtf, go fix it yourself, nuub".

indeed, that is truly the best way to get the community to chip in.

one might be less than motivated after being struck by sarcastic remarks, being made fun of and taunted.

also, as pointed out, not everyone has the skills or the time to do your work for you. i don't, i suck at making graphics and hence cant make them myself.

however, some of these people (like me) might indeed be qualified to point out a few things. instead you meet them with misplaced wit and wounded pride, thereby not only making them hostile, but also shutting yourself off from all criticism.

are you calling me a bitch again? i was hoping you'd have gotten past that.

see? i knew you could be civil & logical. it wasn't that hard was it?

the same thing? my my, i must really have a serious reading comprehension problem then!

how does sarcastic remarks, making fun of someone & taunting, relate to the message you just quoted from the Codex?

maybe reread the original thread without loosing your temper.

Actually, SuAside, you were the one who went insulting and bitching in that thread, not VDweller.

Do you really find it terribly strange that his reaction to your criticising the graphics (which included the look of the graphics) was 'Well, that's not what this game is about. But hey, if you like it differently, design a new UI and we may just implement it.'
Which is pretty much what he said, although in a bit more sarcastic tone after the rather hostile reception *you* gave him.

Also, no, SuAside, you didn't give him that idea. He had already evaluated user-submitted UIs before your posts.

yar, because saying a game of that calibre deserves better graphics is so freaking insulting, i concur.

do you find it terribly strange that my reaction to his sarcasm and taunts were less than friendly?

Sander said:

yeah, because he asked it so friendly, right?

hmz, aren't we pretty much doing the same? we're pretty much being hostile to Bethesda (or Glutton etc), yet we don't expect them to go get all personal do we?

gamedesign reaps criticism, learn to deal with it or gtfo of the business and go save the rainforest on your sandals...

but i suggested it all the same... *sigh*

Go re-read your own posts, SuAside. You commented: "...that doesnt mean you can pass off a game looking like some amateur mod without any graphic talent."
If that isn't insulting, I really don't know what is.

Of course, you're free to say those things, but you're acting as if VDweller was the one who was unnecessarily insulting and started it all.

In fact, the way I see it now after re-reading all the posts, VDweller posted a sarcastic reply to that, after which it got somewhat decent. VDweller made a passing comment on how you bitched at the graphics (which is hardly an insult, SuAside), and you then started to act all uppity and insulted, which is pretty damned hypocritical.

SuAside said:

Yes, considering the fact that you're no stranger to sarcasm and taunts and his 'sarcasm and taunts' were hardly insulting or taunts at all.

I also find it terribly strange that you are berating VDweller for treating you poorly, while you are completely unwilling to go back and look at what *you* posted.

SuAside said:
yeah, because he asked it so friendly, right?
Actually, VDweller was relatively polite. Did you even read the thread? In fact, his request *was* pretty friendly.

Yes, but Bethesda hasn't shown any way of communicating with or listening to the fans. We also never bitch about their insulting treatment of us, mainly because there isn't any.

I didn't berate you for how you received him either, but more for your rather silly attitude now.
