An Open Letter to Bethesda Fans

Wouldn't telling the trolls to stay away but then mentioning that you'd argue with them head on just bring in more trolls though? It's not like they would care if they couldn't change NMA users' minds, they would just like to rile everyone up. I think getting all up in a troll's business would be counterproductive to keeping trolls out.

I'm surprised how ignoring them does NOTHING in my experience. They're a source of cheap laughs you know.

The problem with using them as cheap laughs is that you're unwittingly inviting more trolls in. Since trolls want attention, what would be better than a community that'll give them tons of it.

That's why we have the ban hammer. We don't give them another chance.

But then they could just sign up again using a proxy if they get IP banned. Though admittedly it seems the trolls that come here aren't determined enough to do that.

I first played Fallout 2 when I was like 8 and things obviously didn't go well for me, I didn't really remember Fallout until they started hyping Fallout 3. Since I was 15 when it came out I liked it and played the shit out of both it and NV when that came out. After that I went back and tried Fallout 2 again and I fucking loved it, I did almost everything in that game and then got halfway through a dumb playthrough but couldn't finish. So I don't hate the originals and I'm not here to troll, but I also don't really hate Bethesda.
As people have said they've only made one Fallout game, not a whole lot of data to go off of. And while obviously they dumbed down Skyrim a lot compared to Morrowind and even Oblivion (both of which I also played a lot of in the mid 2000's), they're still the people who made Morrowind so you know they're capable of making a good game. It just seems like most people here are instantly critical of any Fallout 4 news.
So in your version of a perfect world what would Fallout 4 look like? Use any hypotheticals you want, maybe Bethesda never bought the franchise and Black Isle is doing fine, maybe Bethesda just never made Fallout 3 and this is the first Fallout since they bought the rights. What does it look like?

An Obsidian game. That's the simplest, most realistic one I can think of.

Seconded.

Its not like Beth would lose money if they made Fallout, An action packed, post-aopcalyptic, Michael Bay wankfest. Well, they should change the title.

Then, they can outsource any true sequel to Obsidian. Oh and givem a bit more creative leeway wouldn't hurt.

Ok but like specifically what changes are the problem? The whole rework of the perks/skills system? The voiced PC? Story concerns? Cause while I think New Vegas was better than 3 Obsidian had the advantage of not having to actually make everything in the game. It was basically just a massive, really really ambitious mod. Now Bethesda has had a really long time to make the game and I'm feeling pretty optimistic about it.

Emil is the main writer. Hopes for a good story... DESTROYED>

Fallout 3 wasn't THAT bad. And so far Fallout 4 doesn't look like it's gonna be anything like 3.

Fallout 3 was a shit game with mediocre gameplay and A MASSIVELY BAD story.

Yeah but it was also their first try. They were trying to get a bigger market for it, and it worked. Aren't you at least excited to see a Fallout game on a modernish engine?

I would be. If there was the hope of good writing, great choices and consequences and moral grey areas.

That's not going to happen.

I'm pretty sure Bethesda knows people prefer New Vegas, they even said they've learned from their mistakes. Idk man I think this is gonna be a really good game, they put way more time into it than Fallout 3 and Skyrim.

Ha! It's going to be bad from a written viewpoint. THEY'RE USING SKYRIM AS AN EXAMPLE!!! That game had a bad story and boring quests.

The looks aren't the problem; the gameplay is. FO4 looks just fine ~visually. They've actually made the Power Armor look appropriate this time. The problem is that it's being passed off as a Fallout title, and yet has more in common with NOLF 2 than any genuine Fallout game.

*This doesn't even cover what's wrong with the writing and NPC interactions.

The problem is Bethesda's intentions to make Westworld style theme park simulations of the Fallout IP instead of appropriate series titles.

Example ending,

The Wrights clean up New Reno and make it a new immigration hub. Without gambling and general vice revenue, this is only possible with Morningstar gold from Redding. This new partnership builds an alliance with the Gecko/Vault City R&D consortium. An end slide of this new regional power player would unlock along with the various ending slides for each individual town, based on the players choices.

Skill usage example,

If one was claiming to be a pre-war expert, one would need Charisma, Speech and Intelligence. All skills would need checks but it wouldn't be stupidly lumped together. Charisma on influencing people through presentation of speech. Speech itself would factor in regional dialect, colloquialisms, proper sentence structure, ideal usage and placement of words, etc.

Intelligence provides the ability to properly learn above skills. If you add science, then you have practical application of pre-war knowledge, gleaned with Intelligence, from books, pre-holocaust survivors, etc.

All skills are necessary but with varying degrees, An average joe is easier to convince than a vault dweller.
