Animatrix - What did you think?

Shadowbird

Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
I saw Animatrix about a week ago, and I must say - most depressing of all the Matrix series. As a matter of fact, none of the Matrix movies or the game was depressing - just the cartoon. It started OK, but the further it went, the more grim the overall feeling became. I saw it the second time today, and only strengthened the opinion.

It was also impossible to understand about 75% of anything that came after the "Second Renessaince" parts... Of course, I did see and understood what happened on the screen, but I still haven't figured how, if at all, it fits int the whole Matrix story. They seem like randomly taken bits of Matrix history with no connection whatsoever.

Overall: Weird and depressing.

Did you see it? What did you think?

*slight spoilers*

I liked some of it.

Some of it I could've done with out. The whole second rennaisance thing was cool, but it didn't really make much sense, when you think about it. Would've been cooler if they combined The Matrix with The Terminator! Whoo!

No? Okay. Nevermind then.

I enjoyed "Kid's Story", the artwork was good. ...And the black and white one about the Detective was excellent, if not rather depressing. "Final Flight of the Osiris" was well done, too.

Overall, it's about a 7 on a scale of 1-10.

The detective story was one of the most non-depressing parts IMO.

Yep.

If you watch Matrix: Reloaded, the kid who keeps on following Neo in Zion is the same kid from "Kid's Story".

Erm, I don't really see how the detective noir from "A Detective's Story" fit into the Matrix setting, but okay.

"Beyond" really showed the most Japanese influence, even though most of the Animatrix is anime. All I knew was that the story was very hard to follow and very unfulfilling.

I loved the shading and pseudo-samurai's in "Program". I thought, artistically, this was the best of all episodes. Plot and story kinda reminded me of the traitor in the first Matrix, though.

"Matriculated" was a very shallow episode once you get to the point. Basically, it's like staring at one of AVS in Winamp or Windows Media Player for twenty minutes. It's all snazzy but that's it.

"Second Renaissance" revealed alot of the background in the Matrix. Recommended that you at least get the Animatrix for that piece alone.

Animatrix?

People keep saying "Better than Matrix 2". And while being better than Matrix 2 isn't difficult, it's unfair to compair the movie to a set of cartoons.

That said, I liked some of them. The detective story I really liked until Trinity showed up. Final Flight of the Osiris was pretty. The one with the runner doing some weird-ass stuff was fun.

Though, generally, my biggest complaint would be that it was fugly.

Really, really fugly. I haven't seen such a smack of badly animated cartoons going for high price in quite a while.

*sigh*

Spirited Away = good

Animatrix = bad

Oh, almost forgot:

Matrix Reloaded = pure, unfiltered crap

Spirited Away = Super Good
Animatrix = What I've seen... meh. Not horrible, but not so good either.

As for Reloaded... I thought it was okay, not as good as the first, but the fights were certainly entertaining, if not exciting... They were sort of just, well... Absurd.

Kid Story had awesome animation, and Detective Story was pretty cool, but the others were somewhat weak.
Reloaded's only cool part was when Morpheus hit yon car wid won katana, and den shot it.

"Final flight of Oziris" was OK but "Matrix:Reloaded"...man that fight with zilions of agents is very,VERY boring!

Speaking of anime, and spirited away...

I'm guessing that none of you peons have seen Princess Mononoke yet, right? Princess Mononoke is twice as good as Spirited Away damnit, if not even better.

*shrugs* Princess Monoke is a well-known classic. Lots of people have seen it.

I haven't.

I might, some day, though...

I seriously advice you to do so. You wouldn't regret it, dude - it's worth every penny.

Another Anime film I find pretty good is Laputa.

I haven't seen matrix reloaded or animatrix, I liked matrix and I don't want any sequel to ruin it.

Haven't seen it, and I don't plan too. I hardly watch TV, and I try to avoid cartoons as much as possible (though I make an exception for the Simpsons).

Beh.

I saw it, I liked it better than either of the movies, which isn't all that well I guess. The premise is cool and the ideas behind it are excellent, but I just never got into it.

Both the Second Rennaisbfhgjkbf(bah) rocked, mainly because of the grim feel of it all, the narrator and the music. Just the whole death thing was really saddening. Like the bit where that guys in the robot and then one of the tentacle machines gets it's tentacles on him and uses it's laser to cut open his door and then it wraps it's tentacles around him and tears off all his limbs. I watched that part over and over and i couldn't stop thinking about it. It was just really well made and it makes you feel something for the soldiers. The grim, futile feel added something that not many anime's can achieve. The matrix should have been about this, the struggle against the machines, not this jumping around being a pansy bullshit. Program and Believe or glitch or whatever that one was called was good. Metriculated was crazy and detectives story was pretty good too. Spirited Away rules. The Second Rennaisance didn't make any sense because any sane world leader would have reached an agreement with the machines, instead of causing war. The gore was still pretty cool. Final Flight of the Operating System was just amazing. The way they rendered that japanese chicks butt was cool. Worthy of one of my coveted BLAU awards.

Final flight, detective and the last one were the best ones.
Second rennaisance : haven't they played Fallout ? any EM bomb would have gotten rid of their problem.

I think that the last one is a sort of preview of what's to come in the 3rd Matrix movie. I'm sure we are going to see some of these sentinels with green "eyes" they must not have been the only coumpound doing that type of things to robots.
