Another month!!?

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
Well, while you guys are all busily playing ToEE. Spare a thought for poor Australian me who can't get ToEE until it comes out on....

24th of October! Just a little over a month away. :(

On the plus side DU they might have a patch out by that time. I didn't notice any bugs until I reached the temple, but now my two fighters are permanently webbed. If I didn't get a ring of free action early on I'd be pretty screwed - as it is, I can't decide I should forge ahead, start a new party, or add a level 1 fighter and hope he levels up quick enough to contribute. Damn it, it's too addictive to put aside until a patch....grrrrrrrr.....

If they do indeed add a patch. Huy Nguyen has said that he, personally, would like to stream one out but he's unable to do so officially at this moment.

DU, you've got it easy really. Montez and I are horribly addicted to the game as it is, littered with bugs and all. Here's one bug: my Paladin hero, if he is killed outright by one blow, does not fall down into the "Dying" state but is still able to move like normal. However, whenever I command him to attack, the game crashes. This has happened to me at least three times (my paladin likes dying on me) but I'm too addicted to make a completely new character.

Well, the game should be in stores over here any time from right now to two weeks time...

Why not just order from the internet, DU?

Same here. Greyhawk will be available in the Belgian shops on October the 3rd. I just went out into the city to check it out. Damn. Now that I have lots of free time (I'm unemployed - again...), I still have to wait to waste my life playing games. Hm.

I thought about buying Lionheart instead, but the fact that it's not turnbased (it isn't, right?) and the fact that I've heard some people complain about the combat, made me change my mind. Well, back to writing than, I'd say...

Oh, and I was surprised to see that Morrowwind already has a budget version. It costs less than 20 Euro. Didn't buy it, though, 'cause I think my computer isn't good enough to run it.

Yeah, Lionheart isn't turn based. You might want to try the demo, although I presonally did not enjoy it at all.

I have the full version of Lionheart and I've maybe played a total of eight hours with it. I wasn't impressed with the combat, it seemed to Diabloesque hack n' slash.

Some of the bugs on ToEE are devastating but not enough to make you quit the game in frustration. I can only imagine that a patch will only boost the game's goodiness.

So just wait, folks. It's worth it. And hope a patch is released for all your troubles.

From the chat log:
[Exitium] [Arcana] Question: If there is to be a patch...when can we expect an acknowledgement of what will and wont' be fixed/changed
[TimCain] We are planning for a patch that will not invalidate save games - rule #1
[[Troika]Steve] I know locally at Troika we've made changes to the codebase and fixed bugs, there was infact a build made after the gold build that Atari chose not to go with, and we continue to work on things when we have time.
[[Troika]Tom] I hope we can make an official (or unofficial) announcement by next week
[[troika]hnguyen] as i've written earlier on the forums, everyone who is helping to report bugs and link savegames really helps A LOT!
[TimCain] Atari has not told us whether or not they want to pay for a patch, so we will have to see what we can do on our own time

Damnit! They assured me that it was going to be for sale on Octobre the 3rd. Well, guess what? It isn't. And that mofo in the shop promised me. Said I could sleep on both ears. Hm. 'Could be any day now' he just said. I went berserk. I so wanted to punch him in the face. *grumble*

That delay has probably something to do with this statement from Atari:
LOS ANGELES - Oct. 3, 2003 - Atari today announced plans to develop a patch for its recently released PC CD-ROM game, The Temple of Elemental EvilT, set in the Dungeons & Dragons® World of Greyhawk created by Wizards of the Coast. The patch, which is initially slated to release later this month, will address a number of issues associated with the retail release of the product, including: technical fixes and general fine tuning; a variety of quest clarifications; corrections for some race and class inconsistencies, such as miscalculated attack modifiers and incorrect weapon and spell use; as well as a number of interface updates.

Well, I guess the game should have been released here together with the european release, but It's been at my local store for at least two-three weeks by now. I bought it at wendsday.

Fun game. :)

Apparently, ToEE's coming out at my local TOMORROW. Heheheh....

I'm actually going to wait for the patch before I buy it though. Starting a buggy new game isn't my cup of tea just yet (I also don't have the time to play, which is the real reason for the delay).

I dunno, the bugs kinda grow on you after a while. You know it's really endearing when you're paladin has fallen because someone else partakes in a drinking contest or when one of your boys dies but doesn't loose all his HP only to be still alive with the "Dying" status that has you so befuddled that you don't know what to do so that when it is his turn, you command him to attack someone (well how can someone attack someone when he's dead? Tell me that!) and so you've got the undead fighting on your side, only your boy isn't really undead he's just buggy and it turns out that you did the wrong thing by making him move because that simple command crashes your game and corrupts your save-file.

Uh, right. Download, Circle of Eight. The more stuff in the Craft Items/ Potions/ Armor, etc. is entirely worth it.

Alright! I finally got a copy of the game! I'm going home now so I can install it and check it out.

LATER (first impressions)
Hm. I've played the game for a couple of hours now, and well, I'm pretty pleased with it. Travelling around in that first town seems kind of time consuming, though, should've thought about another system there, waypoints or something, but well, it's okay. Got a poor framerate sometimes (what with all those fireflies and waving trees and all), so I'm glad it's turnbased. Tutorial was way too short, though. Best tutorial ever was the one for Age of Empires 2, imo. Got not much to say so far, still got to get the hang of it really.
