Hey I was hoping that someone could direct me to a post or just flat out tell me what order and which patches I should use for a fallout 2 uk version 1.0 that came from the fallout collection dvd. I want the children back in, to walk slower than a car, and to crash as little as possible, Other then that I would like to keep things as close to the original US release as possible. I tryed installing uk 1.02, children patch, 1.05, and then killaps B patch, but I still run faster then the car on the world map! Please help me figure out which patches and in what order. Thanks

Well if you are running a 1.0 version then just install the childrens patch and version A of mine. No need for the 1.05 patch. Be sure to read the readme file that comes with my patch though. A fresh reinstall is needed for all of this as well.

cool thanks im about to try it, ill post back if I have issues. I wish there was one end all be all patch that included everything as far as bug fixes though, but I guess your patch is the best so thats the one ill use. OH, also this will fix my running faster then a racecar problem? This was the first issue I noticed when I tried installing all the patches together.

Edit:
I just noticed I dont have an art/critter directory, just data and ereg inside of fallout2 folder. Does this matter?

Added later:
Ok I put in the kids patch in the fallout folder and it created its own art/critter directory, but after putting in killap A I have another seperate critter folder inside fallout2/data/art/critters which was created by your patch. Should I take the files in the fallout2/art/critters dir and put them in the fallout2/data/art/critters dir?

are there any moderators on that could help me with this? Would the contents of the children patch go in the data/Art/critters dir created by the killap A patch or is there supose to be to seperate art folders?

*edited out previous info

Also to answer your questions, yes my patch will fix the speed problem and it is the best as far as bug fixes. It fixes all the fixes in the 1.05 patch plus about 250+ more.

EDIT: Correction on my part. Leave them separate. I forgot that the critter dat file is separate in the way it is extracted.

so critters should contain like 106 nachblah (from kids patch) files and hmaxatt and nmlosraa(only two in critters from your patch)? so I leave them seperate? Man im getting confused. In fallout2 ive got 3 folders art data and ereg. in art is critters and then 106 nach files. in data is Art proto text ect. I am to leave this as is?

Please see the clarification I made. Those art files are different so they belong in a different folder.

The children patch should look like

Fallout2/art/critters

and my patch should be

Fallout2/data/art/critters

awesome so its right already. Thank you so much for the clarifying, it just seemed odd to me that their were two seperate folders with same name. Thanks alot man
Oh also your patch includes a fallout2.exe should I replace mine with this one or leave it be with mine?

Yes, it should be. Let me double check though. I am on a different system so let me just clarify so you are truly set. For some reason I myself have become confused...

I thought I read somewhere that you said to leave the fallout2.exe file alone? But maybe not. Also where have I seen that bear from? A cartoon? It looks familiar.

Ok, I think you are good leaving them in different spots. I have not used the childrens patch so I cannot be 100% sure on this. (Just 90 some %) A good test if you have children is when you arrrive in the first town see if there is a little boy running around if so, you are good.

As for the .exe I am not sure what you mean? Just use the one that comes with my patch and you should be fine.

I am not really sure where the bear is from...I found it years ago on the net and just kept it for myself. :D

I first saw the bear on a site called FallStreet back in 1999. As you might have guessed, it's an economic commentary site with a bearish bent. The link is below, though it looks very different now and it no longer has that graphic of the bear:

The bear also used to appear on Gold-Eagle, but again it is gone now:

What could I use to test that the patch is working, Im walking at a slower pace now (still seems kinda fast, just not as fast as the car). Does this mean the patch is working, or is there an early bug fix I could test before I get too involved in it and then get a bad crash.

Just look at the readme file and see if the issues I mentioned are indeed fixed.

EDIT: Another thing though. Are children appearing correctly in your game? I just want to make sure I was not totally off. The more I ponder this the more I think all the files from the kid path belong with the other files in the \data folder. It makes more sense that way...

Hmmmm, whenever I try to use the mutagenic serum, on a Broken Hills mutant or otherwise, I get a message saying "that does nothing." When I used it on Lenny I wasn't in combat mode, but he didn't die at all, nothing happened. Regardless of this the script that was mentioned above kicked in, making the bar and Merk turn hostile.

In a previous post, you mentioned using the 1.05 patch, yes? If so, I cannot really support issues in older patches, etc.

I will still attempt to help though...

I honestly cannot remember if the mutant serum was broken in the older versions of Fallout (I do remember there were issues with it and those were fixed in my patch)

I do remember using the serum on Lenny during the fight in the basement as well as upstairs in the main bar. I believe using it in the bar did in fact kill him (he melted) but the bar turned hostile. Both cases he did in fact melt to the ground. If you are doing this in combat, you must exit it first for this to happen.

The serum can only be used on Mutants who have a specific piece of code in their script. I think only 3 in the game have this. 2 are in NCR and 1 I believe is in the Milt Base.

Yes, kids patch in reality is just a bunch of frm files witch frames for children, they removed children by deleting graphic from critter.dat, just put them in data/art folder and will work(it does not interfere witch your patch).

OK, thanks killap. I've reloaded to an older save in which I haven't talked to lenny at all yet, so I'll try to use the serum on him during our scuffle. If it had problems with it before and I still can't get it to work I'll probably move on without finishing that quest. Ill keep you posted though, and thanks again for the info.

Ok, I thought I was off with what I had said in previous posts. Thanks for the clarification Jargo. I stand corrected then.

Very, very strange. I fought Lenny in the basement and used the serum on him, low and behold it worked. It still gave me the message saying "that does nothing," but this time I got a message saying you earn 1000xp for trying the serum. Then lenny collapsed as he should have. I wonder why it only worked here though? In the previous game I had already completed all of Merks missions, and when I tried using it on good ol' Lenny he just kept on throwing fists for rounds and rounds till I killed him. Thanks again killap, I hate leaving quests unfinished, so by and large you just saved the game and a little piece of my sanity.
