Thanks again killap, I hate leaving quests unfinished, so by and large you just saved the game and a little piece of my sanity.
Glad you accomplished what you needed.

You still never gave clarification to my previous question though. Are you running my patch or the 1.05 patch?

Sorry, I'm running 1.05 with the update. I don't know what happened really, ive tried it again numerous times both after finishing all the quests for Merk and doing it before. Since reloading and trying it has worked everytime today, although I get stuck in the basement if i use the serum on him there, but that's not a big problem since it worked in other situations just fine.

Yes, getting stuck in the basement by using the serum or even just saving and reloading there were some of the issues present in the 1.02 - 1.051 game.

Just as a suggestion for future playthroughs of the game, try out my patch which can be found in the downloads area of NMA. The game becomes much more stable with it.

Alright I will. Is it at all backwards compatable with the 1.05 saved games?
Umm, sadly I don't think it is. The only reason for this is that it adds new global vars to the game which seem to invalidate previous save games. I remember Jargo mentioning something awhile ago about a way around this, but I do not remember what must be done.

Just take my suggestion into consideration for FUTURE playthroughs.

Also if you are curious what my patch addresses, have a look at the extremely long list of fixes here (this excludes official fixes which are also present): http://zcn.phix-it.com/fallout2/corrections.txt

Thanks. I wonder if the save game converter would be able to handle it, as is, or if it was updated to do so. I can't really remember, but I believe that I was able to use my 1.02 saves after installing 1.05, but that was quite a while ago and i could be wrong in my recollection.

Yeah, I don't think the 1.05 patch alters any globals.

Oh, and on another note, try and refrain from double positing. Mods become bitter when they see such forum behavior. So use the edit button instead. Just a tip for future posting. :D

Sorry about that. I didn't realize thats what double posting was, I always though it was when someone actually made a duplicate of a previous post.

OK, I am a BIG Fallout 2 fan and I wish to express my deep gratitude to killap for all the wonderful work that he's done patching this game up. I DO NOT want to rush killap or anything, but I want to know if this is (really) the final patch, or there are some other bugs/crashes that haven't been fixed yet (maybe you could go now the hardcoded ones?) I'm holding myself back from playing Fallout 2 until your final patch is realeased. OR, I would be really grateful, killap, if you could tell me some of the known bugs so I can avoid them and enjoy the FULL scale of the post-nuclear world.

Oh, PS; could someone ask Per to re-arrange (just a little) his guide so that it now corresponds killap's patching? Without it, it looks like it's a Guide to a totally different game (albeit worse).

Did you not just read the two posts above yours?

But yeah, it would really be helpful of Per to update his guide. He probably wants to wait for the final patch, though.

Well, the patch is essentially as done as it can be. I have stopped looking for bugs in Fallout 2 and I only fix things that people report. This is why small updates appear now and then. If you truly want to get the best experience, hold out a few more days until I release my next update. Once again I have fixed every (non hardcoded) issues reported.

As for fixing hardcoded bugs...this will most likely never happen. (at least coming from me) Reverse engineering is not something I know how to do nor is it really some I look forward to learning.

...wait a sec, I'm a little confuzzled over here (probably my mistake). You said that the patch is done, however you told me to hold out a few more days until your next release?

What I initially asked you is to (please) tell us which bugs percisely are those hardcoded ones. I have also an idea over there: why not mention them in the txt file, so that people know them. This way, you can also pinpoint it to many others that actually might try to bust their brains over those (perhaps some former developers that are also fans?)

I don't think it's worth anyone's trouble to pick through all that aged assembly code to try to fix a few relatively obscure bugs. The best hope for a bug-free engine is FIFE, although that project may be dead now.

Something i found tru the game:
1. Something is wrong with Vic, has happening to me twice, in encounters, if in the previous encounter is hit and fall to ground(not dead) and if he is remaining like that when i leave the map, in the next encounter he appears on the ground and in the next second he is standing up.
2. Also Vic still has that dialog line "I need to ask you something----Where is your frien Ed, again?" even after i talk to Ed.
3. About Goris, if he is at full health, he still has the dialog line "You should heal yourself".
4. And something strange in SF, Docs, inside of Oil Tanker you can see a female punk outside of the map, near the exit grid. See the pic below.

Well I did in fact answer your question. My patch is done in regards to me no longer LOOKING for issues. I only update it when users send in bug reports of bugs I had not found yet. If no more reports come in then that means no more updates. My latest release is from June and can be found on NMA. A new August release should be done in the coming days.

As for hardcoded issues, I could make a list of them, however, many of them are random and cannot easily be reproduced. For a list of confirmed ones, those include bugs with perks (check Per's guide for specific ones), the too many item bug, bugs with addictions, and jet antidote bugs. These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head and these are the only ones that have the slightest bit of potential to being fixed. (That is if someone knows reverse engineering...which I do not) Any other hardcoded bug would be futile to even consider fixing.

Thanks, killap, that's what I wanted to know :) I didn't really want you to fix 'em (because I know it's damn too hard), I just wanna know which they are. Did you consider my proposition to add it to your .txt file? Also, when's per online? I'd like to propose him a newer version of his guide (if you didn't notice it) so that it can now relate to your patch too.

What fixes are you planning till the end of August, if my curiocity may know (ps, I offered you to translate that Russian thingy at the other forum thread regarding your other patch)

Yes, I shall consider it when I revise the readme file.

I don't know off the top of my head but it is a good dozen or so fixes. No major issues or crash fixes. Just some cleanups here and there.

I did see your post under that thread and I appreciate your offer. I shall be e-mailing you the text files soon. As keep talk about the expansion pack in its thread rather than here. This thread is for patches, rather than the addon.
