first of all you said that it takes "Years" to get good at Q3. How long has that game been out for? And then you said that the people at PCgamer didnt play Q3 enough. Thats their job. they sit on their asses all day and play games. Now your telling me that these people, who have been waiting for "years" (literally) for Q3 to come out, finally get a copy of quake 3 and they didnt play it much? are you freakin kidding? Those people probably played Q3 more than you did. Anyway. lets take our case to the people.

Quake 1 came out 1996. Most hardcore players started already back then, and the ones that are good at Q1 are good at Q3 as well. None of the worlds best players have played only Q3.

Also, why do you think there are international tournaments and leagues in Q3, where you can win huge amounts of money, but I haven't heard of anything like that in CS (or Unreal Tournament, or any other 3D shooter)?

You can't always trust the magazines, especially PC Gamer. I've often seen that it's full of shit. Because it's probably the biggest gaming magazine, most game developers want good reviews from it. A good example is Tiberian Sun. The game sucked the rigid cock of Satan (sorry about the language), but the review was surprisingly good, because there had been such hype about that game for over a year.
For some reason though, it seemed like everyone wanted Q3 to be bad because it offered nothing new and wasn't "cool" like CS and UT were.

Quake 1 and 2 are COMPLETELY different games then quake 3. The way that all of them are the same is that they are all easy.

And actually there are huge tournaments for lots of games where you can win money, tribe for example has a LOT of tournaments. Recently they had a tribes world championchip where all star players from around the globe competed. you can read about tournaments like that in PCGAMER. I know some of the stuff PCgamer says is not always correct but they were right about Q3. Also, they werent the only computer gaming magazines that said that quake didnt add up to UT and other games. PCgames, and Computer Gaming World said the same thing.

oh, another thing your wrong about. Tiberian Sun got a 73. thats worse than Q3. they said that they were expecting this awesome game and they got crap (pretty much like the got w/ quake 3). Also, have you ever heard of a game called Diakatana? Last year PCgamer said that it would be the greatest game of all time. Then when it finally came out they were pissed cause the game sucked so bad. They gave it a 53 for chrissake! that shows that the build up of a game has no effect on how good its going to be.

Now..I own all the games you guys are talking about. Q3 being my least favorite but only because it could have been sooo much better. The CTF in Q3 was subpar compared to UT and Q2 for that matter. Q2 CTF is what got me into CTF. Q3 IMHO was only good for playing DM against the Bots. I never play MP with it just because well frankly the MP is just the same over and over again. The CTF in Q3 is basically DM with flags. UT on the other hand I play nearly every day. The CTF has so much diversity. You have the teleporter, disc launcher thingy (cant remember name off top of head), and many other things that you dont find in many other CTF games. Along with CTF the weapons are far more balanced. There is only one weapon that is faaaaarrr more powerful that all the others (The Redeemer and can only fire once btw). However in Q3 there are weapons that if someone were to get they would basically rule the game (whether CTF or DM). Just my 2 cents.

Well, the reason they gave Daikatana a low score was because it was outdated by far. The game was delayed for about 2 years, and the general opinion about it was that if they released it 2 years earlier, it would have been good.

the same thing with tiberian sun. C and C fans waited so long for tiberian sun and when it finally came out it was nothing special. Personally I didnt even wanna play diakatana 2 years ago when i saw the first screenshots
