Anyone want to be in the Pirates! beta?

Ottomans were not our overlords and masters. Our mighty seamen sailed as far as North America, and were among the first Europeans to ever land there. There's even an Indian tribe called "Croatan" (I'm not making this up - I couldn't believe it myself when I first heard it) that descended from members of a Croatian expedition who came to America and mixed with the natives. Even if we set aside Dalmatia and Histria, Croatian provinces that were under the rule of Venice for a couple of centuries (that spineless shit Ladislas of Naples sold Dalmatia to Venice after losing the Croatian-Hungarian crown to Sigismund of Luxembourgh, who was emperor of the HRE back in late 14th century), there was still the independant St. Vlach's Republic (commonly referred to as "Ragusa"), a millenium-old naval power that pwned even Genova and Venice, but was dissolved by Napoleon in 1808.
I thought Ragusa was in Montenegro.

Anyway, I was just fucking with you. But for the record, the Hapsburgs are only a little better then the Ottomans, and the Venetians where decedent ghey guys.

Dove, sorry dude, you live in Albequrqe. Don't think that was part of Spain by the end of Pirates!

Hey they did! They were providing all the slaves for the colonies and making a pretty penny. That might not be the greatest claim to fame, but it is better then nothing. Possibly.

Hey CCR, is Brazil in? I know the portuguese weren't the greatest pirates ever, but provided quite good targets for everyone else, and besides Rio de Janeiro was originally a french colony, and some regions of notheastern brazil were under dutch rule for over a century.

Yeah, originally it was, but the portuguese took it from the frenchies with some help from some indian tribes. Infact, the first country to get something out of brazil was france. While the portuguese ignored brazil for not having gold or silver deposits, the french struck a deal with some indian tribes to trade european goods for Pau Brazil, a rare tree used for tinting back then.

oh yeah, and thanks for that
