hey malk, you should've taken the opportunity to ban ratty for piracy talking, and remove one contestant from your path. tough technically this thread is all about pirates, but...

Okay, new rule for future Pirates! beta people. Can only be within borders of one of the four empires (Netherlands, France, Spain, England) featured in Pirates! Thus Sander, Welsh (Carlonias part of British Empire) and a few others are viable.

I object. Croats should be viable too, since they were among the best sailors at the time and I'm betting our buccaneers kicked some serious ass on the high seas.
 
Agreed. You can't count out the colonies either. It was their riches that was being exported back to Europe that the pirates preyed upon.

Maybe. But the Ottomans, you're overlords and masters, where not involved in the Carribean.
 
Ottomans were not our overlords and masters. Our mighty seamen sailed as far as North America, and were among the first Europeans to ever land there. There's even an Indian tribe called "Croatan" (I'm not making this up - I couldn't believe it myself when I first heard it) that descended from members of a Croatian expedition who came to America and mixed with the natives. Even if we set aside Dalmatia and Histria, Croatian provinces that were under the rule of Venice for a couple of centuries (that spineless shit Ladislas of Naples sold Dalmatia to Venice after losing the Croatian-Hungarian crown to Sigismund of Luxembourgh, who was emperor of the HRE back in late 14th century), there was still the independant St. Vlach's Republic (commonly referred to as "Ragusa"), a millenium-old naval power that pwned even Genova and Venice, but was dissolved by Napoleon in 1808.
