Are the NV BoS like the ones from FO1 and 2?

First time out of the vault
I adore Bethesda's Fallout games and only played a little bit of the first Fallout. Is the BoS in New Vegas close to what they were like in the original games?

Yep, they were xenophobic tech hoarders with delusions of grandeur. They were less isolationists in the first game but that's what their continued history of hostility and xenophobia turned them into.

Somewhat. In FNV they are more isolationist because they were forced into hiding by the NCR, while in F1 they are basically the strongest organization around. (Save for the Master I guess.) But the overall doctrine of gathering and safekeeping tech is shared by both chapters.

By the way, Fallout New Vegas was not made by Bethesda.

Edit: damn, ninja'd. :P

The Brotherhood from FO1 were a little more open, but still had zero qualms about sending your character to his/her death.

Love Cabbot's little snickering under his breath when you tell him you will accept the Glow mission, "Heh, you will? That's great!"

Anyway, the stagnating and dying chapters you see in FO2 and New Vegas are a result of their narrow mindset and strict adherence to isolationism. Somehow, they became a transcontinental organization in FO: Tactics (which I never played btw) and FO3.

I know Bethesda didn't make it, I just worded that poorly. :P I definitely will get around to playing the originals!

The BoS in FoT is a minority cast out from the main BoS chapter. They opposed the isolationist policy and argued that it's necessary to recruit new members. Looks like they were right, considering the fact that Core Region BoS is all but eradicated while the Midwestern one flourished.

Yup. And the way they were "disposed of" was in a very BoS style too, they were (officially) all sent on a scouting mission across the mountains in order to track the movements of the defeated Master's army of Super Mutants. And then a huge storm struck their zeppelins and they had to crash land around Chicago.
BoS really loves sending people on suicide missions. :D

Yeah, same as in New Vegas when they send you out on a so-called suicide mission to retrieve the components they needed, though at least Knight Lorenzo felt bad about sending folks to their deaths.

Or when you approach them without Veronica, they send you to take care of a NCR Ranger while equipped with an explosive collar.

And then they send you to three locations where they have lost pairs of paladins clad in power armor and armed with powerful energy weapons... Yup, good ol' BoS. :)
