Armor & Inventory system

So, instead of implementing some "realistic" food system, why not redesign looting? Make some things much heavier, so you can't carry 5 machine guns, 500 pieces of ammo, 200 stimpaks and 50 grenades at the same time (I remember I had this kind of inventory in FO2). Make things more expensive, but give few merchants capable of paying you more then few hundred bucks, a la Morrowind, so it just won't make sense to carry all that shit with you. Or simply cut down the amount of weapons that you can carry to 3 (one on your back, one in hands and a pistol or two on your side). Or simply don't give merchants anything of value other than ammo and stimpacks, so the best stuff would be gained on enemies. Possibilites are limitless and food system is not tha best.

I personally think it should be done in one specific way, with the rest of the game totally dedicated to this idea. If you're implementing the neccessity of water and food, go with that and make a simulation out of it where the player needs to sleep etc. Stalker is one good example for me. While I did enjoy that game, having to eat was completely pointless. You didn't need to rest, you didn't need to drink, you didn't need to hunt for your food - It just made the player have to carry some stacks of food with him (which was available everywhere anyways, so it wasn't even a challenge) and have to press some buttons as soon as the "you are hungry"-symbol appeared.
Oh, I'm hungry? In the middle of a gunfight? Ok, let's just quickly take cover and "use" the food. Symbol gone, now let's go back to the game. Sigh.
Baldur's Gate II didn't have any of those aspects, and I was completely absorbed by the story without ever missing such "realistic" gameplay elements.
