Ashley Cheng on Fallout fans

I have to ask myself a question. Do I trust the senior producer of TES: Oblivion, Ashley Cheng, to be on the level?

We have complete freedom to make whatever kind of game we want here. We decide where we want to go, not market data. While we do pay attention to market trends, we place the most weight on games that we ourselves are playing and enjoy, and we make the type of game we want to play. So if we change a feature or game system, it is because we ourselves played it, decided it wasn't good enough and wanted to make it better. We are our own harshest critics

...

The quests you complete have consequences and meaning and move the story along.

...

We proved with Morrowind that a deep, complex RPG can work on a console.

...

We are working on groundbreaking stuff internally, and Oblivion is just the beginning.

Yes indeed. I trust Mr. Cheng implicitly.

Another bold statement, but coming from Bethesda, far from an idle boast. If it lives up to its promise, the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion will be another big step forward, both in the evolution of the Elder Scrolls games, and for the RPG genre as a whole - good news indeed for gamers everywhere.

Hah.

Ashley should really post here. I think it would be enjoyable to have him offer his 2 cents.

Can't be all bad. The guy liked Grim Fandango.

Thanks for the link, looks like good antidotal point of view fodder for content. The Road to, .. , and good intentions ...

As to being a pre Oblivion,[ an iGame(tm) for sure ], a pre Oblivion publication quote and the greek chorus of reviewers that sang praises later,

appears that for all the
... We decide where we want to go, not market data. ...

the ''we'' stated have chosen to 'ride the horse in the direction it is going'.

Just my POV, here in the dust cloud, slinking an oblique drogue, on that coyote trail, the reverse slope.

Now, are these cowboys driving / leading ... or ... following / chasing the herd in relation to FO 3?

FO was like a 'western' in it's sparse, post apoc' Science Fiction way, not a Star Ship Trooper war of the worlds. How they goin' to find enough targets
to feed the need of an iGame? Mystary.

When they gettin' to Dodge?

Now off to shovel more ice / snow, ....

An article that wasn't all bad, considering the source...it did have some points.

The fanbase of course matters,I mean without the "angry" FO fans,Beth couldn't have cared less about some ten year old game since noone would have any form of name recognition...

If one went to some LAN/computer game show and asked what they thought about Omikron:the nomad soul or Outcast, the most likely answer would be "What I think about what?".
But ask what they think about FO and I'm fairly sure you'd at least get a "Heard about it,but never played it" from more people than you'd get the "What?" reply from.

Well if that's where FO3 is heading, accept it. I mean, we obviously can't do anything about it. Let's hope it will be a decent RT FPS with enough blood, gore and a decent atmosphere, story.

Fuck you and bring peace, Neville Chamberlain.

kinda offtopic: i can see this a few months after release:

Now available for FO3 the award ::cough::spit:: winning RT FP RPG dungeon crawler from BLethedzeda - Downloadable Turn Based Combat addon and tools for dialogue development for just 49.99 :D

You missed the horse armor

Hah! Deathclaws as mounts. Now that's something I'd pay for.

As long as they are NOT furry, of course. I care about canon! I care!
