"Umbra" sounds more "tribaly" and more obscure. The demonym could be "Umbrai". Will sound like an invention to the less literate crowd, and I do appreciate the hidden depth.

Although I do second "Ursa Tribe" as well for obvious reasons.

PM me if you need a poll, although Dravean should be able to create one on his own as the thread starter.

according to Killap in this thread: I'm mostly staying out of this for the players to make the final choice. It's all about the players, right? *troll face*

I vote for Bear Spirit Tribe! :)

I've never made a poll before. I just tried to edit my initial post, but I didn't see an option for a poll.

Wow, this topic got bumped outta nowhere, but it seems like I might as well cross-post what I said in the RP thread:

"I figure there's no harm in throwing my hat in the ring if the revamp does go ahead.

I was thinking perhaps 'The Humbled'? It goes along with the theme of the tribe being deferential to their spirits, but more to the point, their actual location is roughly similar to the real-life Humboldt Bay, of which the phonetic pronunciation is, you guessed it, 'Humbled'. Fallout 2 references a tonne of real-world locations, and I thought it might be a nice touch. "

The Humbled Bear? Some background story could be created around too ...

And also, it would give credit to our glorious bear Killap. Who now (most probably the final release) really should receive some symbol of appreciation by the community! As he is himself to modest to put himself in his work, this is now up to us, the community! 7 years of work, damn! :)
(Sidenote, I do not want to belittle the work of all the many contributors to the RP, this is and was a team project from the very beginning. The Bear acted as team coach, focussed the various ideas to a uniting vision, forged out of rough contributions a project and then stable releases, accepted now by the community as almost official version of Fallout 2. So every contributor should see this as a proposal for an award for the complete team, the team "Bear dude"!)

After hitting the edit button do you not see the option at the bottom of the page to create a poll?

If not, just give me the names and I can create it.

As no one stepped up, I did. Selected the proposals for which a additional supporter is existing. (counter chronological)

The Humbled
Ursumbra/Ursa Tribe
Umbra
Moonwalkers
Bear Spirit Tribe
Salty Waters
Spirit Walkers
Petrolia
Prosper Ridge
Primitive Tribe (Keep it!)

I voted for Umbra or its variations. The tribe can be called Bonespeakers or whatever, but Umbra sounds like the best name for the place itself IMO.

No Prosper Ridge? :(
Well that area isn't really a ridge. It does have a nice sound to it though. It also reminds me of the infamous Prosper, which may be good or bad.

But really, having a ton of names in the poll would make it harder to come to a good conclusion.

The name should be more for the location and not necessarily for the people themselves. A tribe can encompass several villages, each having a different name. The game only needs a name for the one village.

I think the best name would be Tuluwat

Wiyot people have lived in the Humboldt Bay Region for thousands of years. Indian Island in Humboldt Bay was home to two ancient villages-Tuluwat and EtpidoL.
Tuluwat hosted the annual World Renewal Ceremony, the participants dancing and praying for seven to ten days to bring the world into balance.

There is also a Restoration Project (Environment) with the same name :) I think the name sounds good, have enough entangled story and is associated with exact location of Primitive Tribe.

One more thing about Wiyot Tribe, following www.clarkemuseum.org (it is not said that it is about Wiyot, but we can guess):
LOCAL TRIBES DID NOT HAVE CHIEFS. The wealthiest man in the village was usually the most influential in decision making. Wealth was counted in dentalia shells, obsidian blades, woodpecker scalps, and dance regalia. A wealthy man was expected to support others and sponsor ceremonial dances. Warfare among local tribes was infrequent because disputes were generally settled by paying compensation.

SPIRITUAL BELIEFS OF AREA INDIANS REFLECTED THEIR CLOSE LINKS WITH THE NATURAL WORLD. The spirits of plants and animals were thanked before their lives were taken, and regular ceremonies were held to thank the Creator for life and to cleanse the world from past misdeeds. Shamans, often women, regularly interacted with spirits to seek guidance and bring healing.

tomekp:
Yup, I've found an interesting map recently, there is the Wiyot tribe marked too. Perhaps the picture does not look much scientific, but anyway, just for curiosity:

Still I'm not sure if such a correct historical name is fitting, because Fallout 2 is set around year 2240. There are barely any traces of previous history in a post-apocalyptic world, I guess.

beside, is there a fixed end time for this poll? (Maybe it should, to push the people a little bit)

Also, someone should push the info about this poll on the NMA front news page.

You guys just wanted to flick me off with this poll, didn't you? ;)

The poll will keep running for at least another week. Also I'm not entirely certain this is front page news worthy, but do tell your friends to come vote. 8-)

It seems we have a pretty clear winner. Now it's simply a matter of which version of Umbra we go with:

1. Umbra
2. Umbra Valley
3. Umbra Shore
4. Umbra Tribe
