Battle Time

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
Are you like me and think there should have been more epic battles in F3 than just the Take it Back mission? I myselfthought there should have been way more real size battles, like the one for Adams Air Force Base could have been much larger instead of just you mega sizing yourself with power armour and an oversized energy weapon.

My want for a large battle even led me to stage one by leading the super mutants in The Mall to the washington monument just so it felt drastic I had to defend the BoS and there outpost!

What d'you think?

i thought anchorena was made to gave that feeling but fail, maeby in the next game you will gave a mission like that

Yeah when I first got Anchorage, I was hoping for huge battles where T51-b equipped soldiers stormed chinese lines, and you would have to wade through wave after wave of chinese conscripts.

Indeed, I would rather have seen more methods that would not require violence at all in order to succeed.

i know it has battles, but they were boring. if only F3 was a good shooter, the anchorena battles could be funny

me too, but bethesta prefer that kind of missions and still fail to make them interesting

To me, the battles would have been boring, regardless what happens. I play shooters as well, but I never played a shooter longer than a few days, until I stopped playing, because of whatever reason (finished the game, as example). Fallout 3 battles can be as entertaining as they want, it would still bore me after short time.

It's somewhat interesting, to see the stuff I am working on with Shattered Destiny 2 and 3. I didn't wrote any "kill x and y" quest so far and 95% of all my quests in general don't have any needed fighting in them. It's a valid option in most cases, but it's never a must have. Still, it feels like Fallout to me. Simply because you have the choice to do what you want and not what you have to. :> (which means that if you don't want to fight, there is most likely some way around, even if it's harder to do.)

By the way, by battles I meant like 10 BoS Knights trying to plough their way through huge masses of muties, and dramatic deaths and crap like that, like when I staged that battle in the mall, when one of the Paladins died, I felt is I failed really badly.

They tried to do that. Like that first time you meat a Behemoth. Fails really bad though. Before you can have "epic battles", you need a working battle system, something that FO3 lacks.

exactly, battles in F3 are just a matter of time and the numbers of stimpacks you have, which is neither tactical nor really "new". And the reason why low level characters with wrong skills can kill several raiders in their vault pijama if they have some stimpacks.

Its a reason why I personaly prefer tournbased combat. Using stimpacks for example or other kind of healing costs points and time. So using that during combat has to be decided carefully.

I doubt large scale battles would work very well in the engine fallout 3... ferments in shall we say. The take it back segment of the game was probably the most bug ridden portion of it as far as i remember. Also confusing and overall left me fealing more frustrated, mostly because the robot killed everything i was trying to target, and the stuff it ignored usually ended up being the one enclave soldier with a rocket launcher who didn't have the accuracy of a storm trooper in a lucas film. Other instances where large scale battles did take place withen the game, such as certain areas where a half dozen encounter locations are located, are the most disjointed chaotic messes I have ever seen as the AI struggles to attack eachother, then glances at me, and magically decideds to put aside thier differences to beat the holy howling tar out of my ass for daring to try and watch thier violent kill fest.
