    1. Did horse survive the Great war and not extict by 2281
    2. Is there any records or referrences of brahmins being a mount animal or caravaners riding any? (while in first two games, brahmins are the only choice of draft animal. I don't know why brahmin carts no longer exists in Beth FO games? including New Vegas where pack brahmin replaces freight carts).

    1. As far as I know, no horses survived the fall.
    2. Have never seen nor heard of brahmin being used as mounts. Cattle make poor mounts in general, so this shouldn't be too surprising. I'm inclined to think there was some sort of engine limitation re: brahmin carts in Gamebryo, because we see brahmin carts as set pieces but never actually hitched to a brahmin and in motion.

Horses are shown in All Roads comic, if my memory serves me well. They are in the background of one panel, so it's easy to miss them. It's shown that NCR troops ride them into battle AFAIK.

Giant Molerats are a prime candidate.

Just read it and yes! an entire panel that not just NCR troopers (likely 1st Recon Btn. Boone's former unit and Goodsprings is not one of his good memories.. actually one of the two tragedies in his life) rode horses, but also fought on horseback just like any wildwest cavs might do with repeating pistols.
And what about in Fallout2 where Ethyl Wright mentions something about the availability of mare milks in many tribes?

Official yes. but I don't see ANY molerats of this size in game, let alone anyone seen riding these or able to tame any molerats.
If this is canon. is the guy riding that big molerat Desert Ranger or NCR Ranger? or who else?

    So horses are canon then?

Why have they never put them into any games? I don't understand. Hell, with the Gamebryo games they already had the assets created for Oblivion and could probably have seamlessly dropped them in.

Canon? I'm not saying it is canon but the RatKing is one example of something similar. Take the LEGENDARY BLOATFLY as one example of mutated animals larger than the rest.

    He looks rideable.

    Horses are not canon yet.

Molerat pic is FO3 concept art. It is not canon, but I guess it's not impossible for something like that to exist either.

Horses appear in All Roads comic which is a prequel to FNV. Written by MCA. It is canon.
Doesn't make too much sense, I guess, but it is canon.

Written by MCA does not make it canon though. Instruction books and manuals are usually ignored. Additional materials are usually semi canon at best because writers are not beholden to that shit 9 times out of 10.

Fallout 1 mentions Pugsley, a donkey owned by Irwin in The Hub.
Regarding the horses in All Roads, MCA does not consider them canon:
"When asked about the horses seen in All Roads, Chris Avellone said, "To me, that picture in the comic was an error (no one noticed it until too late) and that "it was never my intention that there were any horses." He went on to say that "there were parts of the New Vegas design where we specifically removed the mention of horses from certain narrative points (one of Raul’s stories originally referenced horses, for example, and we cut them because we didn’t want to imply horses still existed)."[2]"

    This is true.
But there is a problem here.

All Roads is not supplementary material. It's an official prequel, and the actual game references some very specific points from the comic. So unlike game guides which are usually written by companies which aren't involved in the development of the game, this is a prequel written by one of main writers of the actual game, which is supported in the actual game.
In other words, All Roads doesn't fit the category of a typical video game instruction book (I should point out, however, that original Fallout games are one of the few games where manual content is actually canon - the canon Vault Dweller story basically comes from FO2 manual.)

    ...

However, there is a huge problem with All Roads.
Despite being official, there are continuity errors in it - mostly minor things, to be honest, but nonetheless. And perhaps most importantly, MCA himself has said that horses are not canon and that their inclusion in the graphic novel was an error noticed way too late. According to him, horses are extinct.

All in all, it should all be taken with a grain of salt. I personally don't think horses exist in Fallout universe, at least not in North America, but given the vagueness of the subject, it's up to personal interpretation.

    Edit: Hass ninja'd me.

If you think about it, it might make sense for horses to still exist in some form because:
    1. Americans are very weird about eating horses (it's practically a cultural taboo here)
    2. There's no particular reason I can think of why the wild herds wouldn't exist in the Fallout universe
    3. Horses are (for obvious reasons) more likely to be found in rural areas, away from likely nuclear targets

Semi canon is developers way of using shit without caring if it makes sense.

    My favorite knife.

Horses can't defend themselves very well against predators though. They would need to be looked after I think. Or grow some sharp teeth.

I don't think cultural taboo would play a big part when it comes to starvation. I mean, cannibalism is a staple of post-apoc genre and has been featured in FO games, I see no reason why horses would get a special treatment.

That being said, horses going completely extinct is a bit bonkers idea. I literally know of wild horses who roam the mountains - that is, horses which went wild after their owners died or just let them go. I can imagine wild horses in, as you say, rural areas, far from danger zones.
On the other hand, they aren't small animals and require a lot of sustenance every day to survive. In a post-nuclear wasteland there aren't many places that can offer that, so it still a bit problematic.

They can't defend very well, but they can run away.

Cultural taboo doesn't play much of a role since cats were eaten, too.

    This is probably true.

That said, why are there still dogs?

Plus it is a dumb videogame with no logical consistency across the entire series.
