I'm not sure about my avatar being the best, but at least it's the most 50's.

I made mine myself too.
I make them in a few different colours, too - red and green for Christmas, yellow and purple for Easter, black and orange for halloween, and blue and black for fun.

Odin- is pretty cool and based on his name- cool.

Pipboy- nice changes but not that impressive- not if you compare it with Ghetto Ghoose.

Ozrat- derivative.

Toresica- nice- but on a Fallout board?

UJ- derivative and throwback.

NOw back to the competition- Grim Reaper- it's cool, fits the Fallout theme, fit's his name and artistic.

Skenvoy- gets it mention for being more subtly sexy, while Tink is just blatantly sexy.

But Grim Reaper's is still the best.

I think Nightmonk3y's is the coolest so far.

Mine's just historically correct. Nothing like a cyclops to ruin a good day. That said, if I had the choice, I'd enter one of my Asshats avatars into the competition:

I would, in fact, make that worm my avatar here, but it doesn't look too good when made smaller.
 
I liked my old one; a picture of me, edited by me and hosted by me. But I had it for a while so I changed it.

Now it's the best journalist in the universe.
