[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Dec-03-00 AT 04:48AM (GMT)[p]I made a list of the best games I have ever played and put it here. I'd like to see what games you folks like so please put you list here. :7

Sam&Max hit the road
Ultima series
Day of the Tentacle
Full Throttle
The Dig
Fallout series (duh)
Half-life
Grimfandango
Jedi Knight: Dark forces II
Baldurs Gate series
Monkey Island series
DeusEx
"Sim" series
Twinsen series

I am sure there are alot more. I'll post them as I remember them.:7

Knights of Columbus - Help Mentally Retarded Citizens

Games that I have fond memories of :

Planescape : Torment
Space Quest series
Fallout 1 (FO2 was good, it just isn't that *special* to me)
Doom 1
3d Movie Maker
Super Mario Brothers 3, 64, and Commodore 64 version
Wolfenstein 3d
Wave Race 64 + Cruisin' USA (not good games, just good memories associated with them)
Commander Keen 4 demo
Jill of the Jungle demo

Games I've really liked:
Zelda 64
Blackthorne
Kingpin
Fallout 2
Baldur's Gate 2 (I don't really like it that much, but it's so long, complex, and wordy that I can't help but give it credit. I think the fantasy genre just doesn't appeal to me anymore...)
Soldier of Fortune
Unreal Tournament
The Sims

- Nostalagia Patrol -
Hell_Patrol@juno.com

This'll be a long list

X-COM 1 - 3
Fallout 1 + 2
Spy Hunter
Civilisation 1 + 2
Alpha Centauri
System Shock 2
Star Wars Supremacy
Utopia
K240
Millenium 2.2
Railroad Tycoon
Transport Tycoon
Theme Park
Theme Hospital
Simcity
Mario
GTA2
Scooby Doo - Don't laugh it was my first game!
Stunt Car Racer
Frontier
Monkey Island 1,2,3
Andy Capp
Rick Dangerous 1 + 2
Kenny Dalglish Soccer Manager

Games I've liked (In order of preference):

1. Monkey Island 3. Oh I love this game! Too bad number four is 3D and arrow-steered.

2. Metal Gear Solid (on Playstation). Fun.

3. Day of The Tentacle

4. Fallout 1

5. Grim Fandango (If it had better controls it'd be number 2)

6. Half-Life

7. Monkey Island 1

8. The Longest Journey . It was a good game relative to the other adventures released today. Support little Norway and buy it today!

8. Leisure Suit Larry 7

9. Grand Theft Auto 1

10. Civilization (#1)

11. Wing Commander 2 (Hey, it's better than any of the sequels)

12. Can't think of any more

Games I've really disliked or hated (Mostly because they betrayed their series, or just because they let me down) (in order of dispreference):

1. King's Quest 8. This "adventure game" just plain made me sick.

2. Gabriel Knight 3. Same as with all new adventure games, it tried to go 3D and have a completely new controlling system, and that doesn't fit with the genre. It would have been a truly great game if it was standard point-and click 2D.

3. GTA 2. It didn't have the mafia feel and fun of the first, it was just mindless action. Had somewhat of a sequel feel.

4. Grim Fandango. This was a good game, but the control system sucked here too. Not as much as in other games though.

5. Myst. It didn't piss me off like number 1 and 2, but it wasn't a good game.

Please comment this, I like a good discussion.

RE: hooo

yes those are good games but these should be on the list too.

X-com
Quake 2
and youhave to remember that vampire fighting series for old nintendo. Simons quest and so on.

the rest of the best games in my opinion are already listed.

First game

Great :) Now for a new topic. What was the first game you ever played? Did you like it? The first game I played was Sam&Max or Ultima 8 (cant remember).

Civilization I - for the time and still one of the best and coolest games made. I love that shite.

Civilization II - It kept the magic alive and added upon it.

Alpha Centauri - Another gem by Sid Meier.

Fallout 2 - Only RPG i ever played, and will play unless FO3 comes out.

Heavy Gear 2 - This game was the shizznat. It was tons better than the first, and the multiplayer was hella fun.

Sim City 3000 - It added so much to the Sim Cities. I played this game a lot.

MidTown Madness- This game was also the shizznat. I loved racing around in chicago traffic. It added so much to racing games.

RE: First game

First Game - when i was 8 my dad bought me Civilization. I spent 4 years playing that on my MAC SE. It was the best game i ever played, because it had so many options and strategy even though the technology wasnt that powerful.

Here are mine:

Soldier of Fortune
Fallout 2
USAF
Perfect Dark
SWAT 3
RollerCoaster Tycoon (it's pretty lame, but if you get into it, you get addicted)
The Sims
Half-Life
Time Crisis (for PlayStation. Old, but still has the "I'm killing someone, and I like it!" mood.)
and finally,
Zelda 64 has its place somewhere.

-Silencer

Fallout 1 & 2
Civilization 1 & 2
Master of Orion 1 & 2
The Sims
Sim Earth (Fascinating as a screen saver)
Dungeon Keeper 2
Odium (except for being too linear and the ending was disappointing)
Imperialism 2
Phantasy Star series
Shining Force series
Shadowrun
AeroBiz Supersonic
Theme Park

Wasteland (The best.)
King’s Bounty
Sid Meier’s Pirates!
Phantasie series
Roadwar 2000 (Its sequel Roadwar Europa blew the apocalyptic mood.)
Almost any wargame by SSI or SSG, but especially SSI’s Gettysburg: The Turning Point.
2600 AD
50 Mission Crush
The Eternal Dagger series
Shard of Spring & its sequel Demon Winter
Questron 1 & 2
Legacy of the Ancients
Reach for the Stars
Imperium Galactum
AutoDuel
SunDog
Rails West!
War in Russia

As Rosh put it, "The best games are DOS games.”

RE: Best Games = old games

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Dec-04-00 AT 01:21AM (GMT)[p][font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Dec-04-00 AT 00:55 AM (GMT)

My best games were:

Wasteland
The bard's tale I, II and III
autoduel
Castle of dr Creep
The first D&D game i got on my Intellevision
Fallout 1 and 2
You don't know jack! (all of them they are great)
Descent
Dragon War
Castles
Sim City
Questron I and II
Hacker 1 and 2
Maniac Mansion
Zak Mc Kraken and the alien mindbender
Day of the tentacle

These are pretty much older(very old) games.
I tend to think that way back when we all had C-64 they couldn't put great graphics in game so they made really great games, and so the best games of all time are now abandonwares!

RE: First game

First computer game I played was the old Star Trek game. Played it at night for hours on the university's Honeywell computer, off an 18" changeable hard drive platter. Didn't have a monitor, it just printed out the results each time you moved or fired. Any time you wanted a map of the quadrant and your position you had to print it out. Jeez that was fun!

RE: DOOM owns. (nt)

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Dec-04-00 AT 06:44AM (GMT)[p]Here's my (incomplete) list

Fallout 1&2
Doom 1&2
Grim Fandango (I think the controls are waaay better than with a cursor. No more "pixel hunting")
Carmageddon (Yeah, I know it's bad taste)
The Sims
The Need For Speed 2&3
Wing Commander (I'm not sure if it's 2 or 3)
Warcraft 2
Starcraft
Quake 2

And I'm sure there are lots more, but i can't think of 'em right now.

I can't remember the first game I played on a computer, but it was on a Commodore 64.

"Don't worry men, they can't hit us here"

X-Com 1
Fallout 1
Hexen 1
Civilization

What I remember and consider THE BEST so far. I probably missed a couple of titles just because I forgot about them.

Questron Rules!

Good to meet a fellow Questron fan. (I thought most of us were dead.) Oh, and gee thanks for mentioning Bard's Tale. I'd finally gotten those dinky bard's tunes outta my head. ;)

Did you ever play "Zombies Ate My Neighbors"? It has some take-offs, rip-offs, etc. of Castle of Dr. Creep, Day of the Tentacle, Maniac Mansion and other old games.

Never finished Dragon Wars. Guess if you say it's that good I'll dig out the old Apple IIc and give it another go.

I agree with you about old games being the best. Sometimes, though, I wonder if it isn't just nostalgia. ("In my day prices were reasonable, politicians were honest, and children respected their elders. Oh, and computer games were better, too.") Another factor may be that the primitive graphics forced you to use your imagination more. (Kinda like radio shows.) Seems like today's games cater more to voyeurism than roleplaying. ("I wanna see my Sims nekkid, and it'd be really cool to see my character do the nasty in FO3.") Maybe if programmers finally get graphics as good as they can get, they'll get back to work on the other aspects.

"Never underestimate the power of stupid people acting in large groups."

How about best old console games?

One of the funnest old NES games is River City Ransom. You run around as a short little guy (or two, it could be two player) and punch or kick gangsters and take their money when they die. Then you could buy food to heal or buy books to learn new moves.

Play it on an emulator and see what it's like.
