Best movie music

OK this is probably the oldest and most common thread ever (and I'm sorry, but I didn't see this thread anywhere here, feel free to delete it if I missed it). Also there was a "best game music" thread in the gaming forum, so here it is:

What is, in your opinion, the movie with the best music ever?

I could name a few, such as the "Last of the Mohicans", "Pulp fiction" and "Full metal jacket". Of course there are many others, but these are all I could think of now.

Not talking about soundtracks overall, but Godfather part 2, Platoon, Scarface, Man Who Wasn't There, Clockwork Orange, Gladiator, Dances With Wolves, and Lord of The Rings all had great scene enhancing music...

I really, really like the ol' tunes in "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" but also Big Lebowski. And even though it's repeated to death, all of John Williams's works are excellent in their environment.

I also agree with most of what's already mentioned...

There's a movie that was never made, but there's a soundtrack to it..
It's called Soul Ecstacy. It's like... the best funk music... ever... quite amazing stuff.

Also, Akira's music is pretty crazy.

Ive got to go with Pee Wees big adventure's score by Danny Elfman...

if he can make Pee Wee Herman sound good then he deserves our damn admiration... that and a forty foot gold statue of himself.

Soundtracks that just pick of certain songs for the film may be worthwhile during the film, but are pretty worthless outside it. This includes all QT flicks, those soundtracks are majorly overrated anyway

Best soundtrack ever?

Basil Poledouris' Conan the Barbarian, hands down.

The entire movie is carried by complex, imaginative and all-round great music.

Danny Elfman, John Williams and more of those idiots make nice themes for simple movies, but c'mon...the music in and of itself blows major balls

Mike Batt makes some excellent scores, as does Nino Rota. Ennio Morricone is a genius in simplicity.

-Godspeed You Black Emperor!'s tunes from "28 Days Later"

-Star Wars

-Gladiator

-8 Mile (Yes, 8 Mile)

-Conan the Barbarian

-Escape from LA

-Highlander

-Fight Club

-Desperado

-Nightmare Before Christmas

-Chicago

-Jaws

Everyone seems to agree to these epic soundtracks, such as Star wars, LOTR and Conan (my favourite here would be Conan). I like those, but they'll look good outside the movie too. I like music that really fits the mood in the movie itself.

I don't think Star Crap's or Lord of the Piss' soundtracks can even be compared to Conan's.

In any case, Conan, along with soundtracks such as that of the Godfather, Scarface, the Long Good Friday, King of New York, Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a Time in America etc. etc. almost set the theme of the movie more than anything else in the movie ('cept for Leone's movies, that man was a genius with the camera)

That makes a good soundtrack

Come on, Danny Elfmans tracks for Nightmares Before Christmas just rules, even without the movie. Oogie Boogies song has even made it to my warhammer-painting playlist.

Anyway, the Princess Mononoke theme rocks, as do the Star Wars tracks. The Pulp Fiction soundtrack is pretty good too, but I've gotten quite tired of it by now.

I loved the use of the old folk and bluegrass tunes in Oh Brother Where art Thou. Coen Brothers always have good Soundtracks, but I think this is thier best. Especially the John Hartford tracks... RIP

The use of Ligeti's music in 2001 is classic.
