Bethesda will host a GDC 2016 session to discuss the creation of Fallout 4's open world.

The session, titled "Fallout 4's Modular Level Design," will provide an inside look at how the development team was able to construct the game's massive wasteland "with so many high-quality locations in a relatively short amount of time."

Short amount of time? Didn't they say that Fallout 4 was in development for 6 years? More Todd Howard lies I suppose. :P

I wonder what they were doing for all those years. Environmental design probably didn't take that long, but I'll bet it took Emile a good 5 years to come up with that plot twist.

It probably took them a long time to write all those ~111,000 lines, hiding the lack of choice using the dialogue wheel.

They'll probably make stuff up anyway about the development of FO4 and control the kinds of questions they answer.

LMAO high-quality locations, this guy. I thought it was 6year dev time too, I swear they said they started right after Skyrim.

It's just more marketing to get the hype up for DLC.

I would be surprised if they worked more than 3 years on the game. Probably less. Yeah. Who knows? The concept artist might have started to work on it. But concept art alone, doesn't make a great game - as we can see with F4. And sometimes I feel, they didn't even follow all of those concepts really.

Oh no, all of the hype our marketing department drummed up for our shitty game is being quickly eroded by how tepid and bad it is! Make more hype!!

Fallout 4 suppose to have readable comics(Grognak and what not) and even this was cut.

This is how half finished this game really. My guess is: they gave their full attention right after Dragonborn DLC otherwise it's not possible to have that many cut content. Only thing they fully finished is the map(which is not that impressive for 2015) everything else feels like half done.

Depends which department worked on the game first. Take InXile as example. I think, it was Fargo who said in an interview, one of the reasons why they started to work on Numenera before Wasteland 2 was finished was to give the concept artist something to do. Otherwise, they would had to either dismiss them, or have a whole team doing nothing. Which isn't really ideal.

So, who knows? Bethesda might had even started to work on Fallout 4 long before Skyrim was released. But maybe it was a team of 2 or 3 people which got bigger over time, with more and more teams assiged to work on F4, the moment they finished all of their work on Skyrim and its DLCs.

However, I doubt more than 3 years have been spend on Fallout 4 in full production, meaning, all teams beeing involved in the development. The game simply feels to unfinished for anything that took more than 3 or even 4 years of development. Leave alone 6 or 7 - Who's going to believe that anyway?

I mean yeah ... you could always say they made a lot of mistakes, had to cut a lot of stuff, starting from scratch again etc. Duke Nukem style. Kinda. But does that sound really much better from a team of supposedly professionals?

So, in other words they either outright lied. Or they used their propaganda tools and playing with words. 2 people working on Falout concepts during Skyrim, is not full development in my opinion. Or they are plane and simple incompetent.

Awesome. Bethesda gets to speak about their excellent environmental design process which (for the most part) apparently involves copying and pasting locations, tossing in some named enemies to kill, and adding a few boxes of loot. Oh and make sure you add a quest to tie it all together for the lore. The few locations that are totally unique are utterly wasted due to NO FUCKING CONTENT ASIDE FROM KILLING! Thank God for Kickstarter and Indie devs because these games are being made for the mentally retarded/FPS fans.

You forgot to mention the nonsensically placed skeletons which were initially funny and clever and then 80 hours later we realized they're everywhere.

In any case, the optimist in me says this could be an announcement for a New Vegas 2 type of game, while the realist in me says this is a DLC announcement for Fallmoon.

Finally someone else thinks Bethesda will release a Moon DLC :postviper:, I totally believe there is a high chance they will do just that, I already posted around here why I think that, let me see if I can find the link.

Link to my post why I believe a Moon DLC will happen.

Great minds think alike :drunk:.

They already have the physics for it. The Power Armor was floaty enough with the Jetpack to simulate a moon walk. The only question is Aliens or Commies?

Maybe commie ghouls because in Bethesda Fallout anyone can become a ghoul including a pre-war bear (Ruzka from Point Lookout DLC) or maybe FO3 MZ DLC aliens and their Abominations. Because aliens are all the rage now with the new X-Files mini series, imagine all the money made out of that hype :deal:.

Short amount of time? But our lord and savior Bethesda said it was 7 years in the making! Surely Bethesda of all companies wouldn't lie. Also, high-quality locations? oh, you mean the wrecked ship with Norwegian Ghouls? Or the dozens upon dozens of locations with nothing to do but shoot Raiders/Super Mutants/Feral Ghouls? Look Bethesda it's nice and all to have a huge open world, but please put interesting stuff in it for once.
