Great post!!! I didn't play the first game, but I'll probably support DICE with a puchase, just to encourage others to keep PC gaming apart from consoles.

Buying games just to support a platform doesn't make much sense, but if there's a good candidate to support PC gaming through, it's DICE.

The Battlefield games have one giant piece of shit design that completely eliminate any motivation to buy them. To unlock weapons you must gain ranks and to unlock every weapon takes an unreasonable amount of gameplay that only a few gamers will ever play. I'd rather have obnoxious achievement unlocks than that crap.

I'm not sure why you guys think that DICE is so great, the only recent game that I can think of that was innovative by them was Mirror's Edge, and I hear that it underperformed. They seem to be into Battlefield and racing games these days and while it's great that they support dedicated servers for all platforms, it really shouldn't be that big of a deal. As for supporting dedicated servers for PC, they are hardly the only company.

I never played Battlefield to unlock weapons. I like moderate amounts of realism in a FPS and BF2 imo landed pretty much in the fine line between fun and realism for me, so i just played it for the fun of it. Never understood the unlocks/loot thing. Even when i played WoW i wanted to see the content rather than get new gear.

2142 i do agree with you though. Having to unlock grenades was shit and getting a full kit took forever during which you were barely capable of getting a kill, whereas in BF2 its fairly easy to fully unlock two of your favorite kits and even stock most of the guns perform.

ubisoft is moving towards an online service you have to be logged into while playing. even while playing single player.

You are talking about BF2142, thats ok but in BF2 you dont actually have to worry about unlock since the best weapon in the game is the default AK47. Lets hope that Bad Company 2 follows BF2 design.

Nah man, G3 and L9 For life (the MG36 is beginning to grow on me as well. I had a hard time removing my beloved PKM From my heart). AK is damn nice for a stock gun though, ill give it that.

Meh, console gaming is where the money is at for Devs these days, that is a trend that will not change. Not much you can do but not play it.
Boycotting and all of that does not work, just look at how well that MW2 boycott by the PC community worked out.
