Producers of a planned sequel to the iconic sci-fi movie Blade Runnerhave taken the highly unusual step of publicly offering the lead role to its original star, Harrison Ford.Alcon Entertainment, which has already convinced Ridley Scott to return for a followup to his futuristic 1982 tale, issued a statement on Thursday extolling the virtues of its proposed follow up. The sequel will be written by Blade Runner's original architect Hampton Fancher, with Michael Green, the screenwriter of the poorly received Green Lantern movie from 2011.
"We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time," said producers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove in their joint statement. "We would be honoured, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project."

What part are you wat'ing about?

It's been planned for years.

And yes, they'll screw it up. Hard.

and it will be ruined by shitty CGI(on top of other things).

Just watched Blade Runner the other day, and other than the CRT monitors, the look of the film held up pretty well.

Was there any worthy cyberpunk movie in the last ten years ?

Johnny Mnemonic wasnt that bad I think. At least as far as the whole "cyberpunk" on a movie-screen goes. I mean it had cyborg dolphins! CYBORG DOLPHINS! The next coolest thing would be sharks with lazers.

I said the last ten years. Johnny mnemonic is 19 years old (yeah, time goes fast).
Beside that, my only reason to watch that movie is to see Takeshi Kitano & Keanu Reeves in the same scene.
It's like Humphrey Bogart facing Justin Bieber....

(To be fair, i think Vincenzo Natali & Andrew Niccol do pretty well with dystopian future, but they don't dwelve into visual style, things the mainstream audience expect to see)

I don't even mind the CRT monitors. They fit so well into the aesthetic of the setting that they seem to be from an alternate technological developmental path rather than anachronisms.

And that movie was made with no CGI at all.

No disrespect to Hampton Fancher, but he was co-writer of the Blade Runner script with David Webb Peoples. If you compare Fancher's career writing credits (Blade Runner and The Mighty Quinn) with DWP's (Blade Runner, Unforgiven, Twelve Monkies, to name a few) I'm not sure Fancher's presence alone is enough to inspire confidence. Especially since the other guy's only credit is a bad superhero movie.

Here's a thought: spend the money to get a real writer. William Gibson? Cormac McCarthy? David Webb Peoples?

Oh, I forgot, we're just cashing in on a brand name.

I think I can guarantee that the soundtrack won't measure up to the original by Vangelis, either.

you dont like horseshit? You're so 80s grampah! Next you're saying inovashun isnt making games better!

You're not entitled to good movies you know! /sarcasm

But really, I have no cause to complain. Even if I see it and it's mediocre or even terrible, nothing can tarnish the perfection of the first movie.

Once I was just as naive and ignorant like you, I thought nothing could destroy the xenomorphs.

Then I saw Alien vs Predator. And since then its been incredible difficult to get that picture of Paul W. S Anderson raping the franchise out of my mind. Enough alcohol can fix most problems though.

Oh don't be such dramaqueens.

If you don't like a movie just forget about it, how hard can it be?

Now, shitty movies that continue an unfinished story, that's something to complain about. Or movies that retroactively mess up canon, I can get too.

But Aliens VS Predator didn't even take place in even remotely the same timeframe, or have even a little bit to do with alien/aliens. And those are good movies.

Maybe I'm just lucky in that I have a mind prone to extreme immersion, with any media. If I'm watching a remake, or a modern sequel to a classic, or anything of the sort, I can sort all of the things I like and don't like in my mind and leave the good things untarnished.

Sure, but Aliens Vs. Predator was a good series of books and comics before it was a shit movie, so Alien, Predator, and Aliens VS. Predator were all tarnished at once. Adjusting your "Head canon" is always possible, but why should we like it? Especially if your emotionally invested, like Crni is with Aliens. I totally get it. How many remakes or sequels actually exceed the original? I think people are justified to cry afoul when one of the few sci fi classics that remains untarnished by Hollywood is getting the treatment. Am I excited? You bet. Concerned? Fucking A.

To me there's one big difference with Blade Runner, and that's the fact that you're writing a sequel to a story after the original author is dead. And PKD was one hell of an author. Ridley Scott did a fantastic job with the source material, no doubt, but Blade Runner couldn't exist if not for Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

They undoubtedly have the legal right to make a sequel to the movie, but doing so is in poor taste, IMO. If they screw it up it's in really poor taste.
