Yup, blues.

I need recommendations on blues. And I mean really dark, depressing, woman-left-me-police-shot-my-dog delta blues. Something like Black Snake Moan from the movie of the same name. The darker the better.

Hah, forget one: Blind Lemon Jefferson. He's cool too.

Also: Mississippi John Hurt is more folk than blues most of the time, but it's still great stuff, often about booze and women, but also about (I hate to say it) religion. Yeah.

The Coen Wolters band is a pretty good band, which describes itself as a Blues Trio so it might be to your liking. Lots of electric guitar, but not really dark. Still pretty good.

Things on top of my head with blues... they might not be 'dark or sad' but just a couple that i know.

Albert King, Albert Collins, BB King, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers (with Clapton), Buddy Guy, SRV, Robert Johnson.

If you'd like Trumpet/Sax based blues... can't help ya there, am a geetar player.

Hey DDD- I got into the Blues last year. A good place to start is Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues: A Musical Journey Which goes from origins to more modern versions.

Alec's suggestions are spot on. I like Beau Jocque and the Zydeco Hi-rollers for a Zydeco/rock/blues version- especially "Pick up on this"

What is the area of usage for this very, very dark blues that you're speaking of?

Drawing the conclusion that you're more or less satisfied with previous recommendations, I wouldn't guess it's for the 'ol fashion listening [...]

Otherwide you wouldn't search for this darker blues.
