Yeeehaw, them thar's a mighty storm!

Well, they just gave the weather alert thingy here in Leiden. No driving and preferably no walking on the streets, as trees keep getting flipped about. Crane fell over and hit a college building in Utrecht.

Storms in Germany too. And Belgium maybe, I don't care about Belgium.

How my Euroweenie compatriots holding up?

Sadly my English isnt good enough to describe it.
But its amazing , i live near the countryside (in an old house)
The wind is even in my room.

Fun stuff over here. Almost no wind when I got out of the house and got in the bus (bike's broken), but when I got out of the bus to walk to my work I had to fight to stay up, even though it was only 2 kilometers further. Weirdness, but fun.

No damages here so far, though.

don't come whining for us to fish you out of the water when you're drowning then... fucking dutchies.

and yeah, it's been storming all day, winds @ 120km/h. tomorrow it'll continue.

i almost flew away today :)

There was some serious water levels round stockholm -> archipelago. Pretty intense. The wind seems to have mangled my backyard too. Some trees have ripped some roads when they fell (roots coming up) but now its quite calm.

It hit Warsaw today, when I was waiting for my goddamn bus home.

Strong winds, but nothing as strong as we had last weekend. Where an uprooted tree squished a nun in Kraków, on Bishop street. Heh.

you better not go outside your head might snap off. J/K

In the N.T we get some pretty bad ass storms we have not been hit by a cyclone in sometime now had a close one last year so I reckon we are due for a direct hit very soon.

we had winds reported up to 360kmh there are some aerial shots of acres and acres of bushland with not a single branch left on a tree it is just amazing to see.

I had to 'drive' my bike home for six kilometers, for cryin' out loud. More than half of them were semi-against the wind (I walked most of the way) - the last three of them were with the wind; which was kind of cool.

Kind of. I fell two times.

So which smartass among you had the bravery to go outside with a large umbrella to see if you could fly? Come on...someone did it.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Damn. It's going to be 40 degrees Celsius here this weekend, so yeah, if I don't make it back, avenge my death!

euhm... right...

above 120km/h it's hurricane speeds. (windforce 12 in the beaufort scale, which is the top of the scale)
and you say you got 3 times that?

nothing would have remained standing Serifan.

so either you source that, or go die in some corner.

wouldnt the umbrella just fold & break?

Some weather pics from down under not exactly the "Northern territorys' area but, http://www.australiasevereweather.com/photography/photos/2007/index07.html

What Serifan describes could have easily been a microburst.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microburst

But I still don't see anything going past 220km but he could be right.
Microburts have no limit to the speed they can reach, if that's what it was.

Who knows.

Really though don't complain, its -21C/ -6F
Its freaking cold.
This is actually the warmest its been in about 4 days.
I would like wind instead of snow and bone chilling cold
right about now, or even some monsoonal rains.

Edited: took out non useful information seeing as Serifan delayed useful information.

That's a cyclone, Serifan, a vastly different phenomenon than a windstorm, which is what happened here.

I never said it was a storm.

we have not been hit by a cyclone in sometime now had a close one last year so I reckon we are due for a direct hit very soon.

We do get some crazy storms in the top end we only have to seasons Wet and Dry

You know, a good thing about storms and hurricane-class winds is the fact that a small number of billboards survive. It refreshens the view a little.
