Brotherhood of Steel in the Capital Wasteland

First time out of the vault
ITT: I want to discuss the BoS and their presence in Fallout 3 and how poorly executed they were. Basically Bethesda new they had to include them in a different way so they made them the generic good guys with no rhyme or reason. The BoS is completely 1 dimensional is FO3. Your thoughts?

Agreed. They are largely uninteresting and could have replaced by any other faction in the series.
Hell, why not make the BoS the bad guys, holding pieces of technology that some self righteous Faction needed to purify the Water?
Then you could have had an interesting quest where you had to pull a heist to get the technology, with different methods etc.
That would have been a nice interesting turn of events.

Instead they are largely just boring.

The brotherhood was in bethesda 3? You sure about that? I saw some big guns organisations with a edge on tech when I played, but neither had anything to do with the brotherhood or the enclave?
I didn't run into super mutants either, just some other big mutants, unrelated to FEV which is completely unknown in former DC... Right?

Anyway, even if the brotherhood was there, why would bethesda would have had to include them?
Think about it, most players who started with this strange fan fiction of theirs didn't know anything about Fallout, and the old fans not liking it should have been predictable, so what would have been the point? The power armors? Most characters do fine without it, and those that wear them develop a superiority complex.

I agree completely. The BoS basically got turned into wasteland superheroes. Hooray.
Then Bethesda kneejerked and made them into nearly unlikable jackasses in Fallout 4. In 1, 2 and New Vegas, while they can be pricks at times, they are not outright major douchebags. Meanwhile in Fallout 4, they do stuff that goes too far for a xenophobic faction.

Bethesda basically wrote two of the worst versions of the Brotherhood of Steel.

I’d argue the Beth versions are worse than the Carbon Chapter of the BoS. At least Carbon and Chicago let ghouls in. Beth’s Brotherhood are xenophobic mutant hating “badass” super-knights at best (3) and actual Nazis that you side with out of prudence and because they’re the only faction that doesn’t suck in terms of weaponry at worst (4).

I’d argue that the days are darker than the nights, because the cones in my eyes are fucked and don’t process light like everyone else. It’s a disability and I don’t want it to define me.

Actually I hate to be a stickler but in one ending of Tactics they kill the Ghouls and Mutants. If Barnaky ruled in any form that would be what happened. You have to try pretty hard to get the Muties, Ghouls, and Deathclaws...damn you made me want to finish my Xconn run.

Touché. You win this round, damn you.

The idea of a rogue brotherhood chapter following in the foot steps of the followers of the Apocalypse is a great idea. Also a great idea: rogue chapter splits to have fundamentalist and conservative BOS at odds with goodie two shoes BOS. Why the villains of fallout 3 weren't just the brotherhood outcasts I will never know...

Their Power Armor wasn't black enough.
