Buyer's Remorse

Got Fo3 on steam sales years after release. I regret more the time spent that the money invested.

Got introduced to Fallout with 3, dad bought it for whatever reason. Still can not believe I used to like this game.

I also preorded shitout 4. On the plus side, never again betheshit.

Friend said it was good.

Next day he said it wasn't. Could've told me before I'd exceeded Steam's refund time.

To be fair, it took a long time for a lot of people to register how bad this game is. I just saw a video from Juicehead, a guy who covers upcoming Fallout 4 mods, and doesn't hate the game, and even he's commenting on how shit the game is, although not in those words:

I kept going until around Diamond City. It's only when I entered properly did I realise how shit it was.

I played the game to get my money's worth, then tried another playthrough but couldn't complete it. Signed up for betas or pirated the DLC. They were all shit.

Really? I heard Far Harbor was really good. Haven't played yet...because for all the things I hate about Fallout 4, I'm going to give it another go. For the mods. I want to play Maxwell's World and Penn's Woods and Fusion City. I also understand Talkie Toaster is working on a RobCo Certified. Also the Wasteland Overhaul is aiming to bring back all the classic Fallout weapons, and they've made great progress. There are even spouse companion mods and ways to complete the game without liquidating all the other factions. It's not going to fix the pathetic Boston map problems....but it might help.

I really want to see Frost when it's finished. I want to see if Fallout Lonestar or Cascadia or Miami ever get done. I hope someone writes a better, extended prologue. I'd take a refund, but I'm not done with the game. I kinda hate myself for that.

This will be a trend in the years ahead for the record...let it be known that Toront called it. You new Fallout fans birthed in the fires of Y2K will see it when the new generation comes along and says the same thing...

I'm....not one of those babes. I've been playing Fallout since 1999. I didn't hate Fallout 3, as I considered it decent first effort. I should have known better because I don't like Bethesda games. I didn't like MORROWIND, and it should have been a tipoff to me (it wasn't) that I enjoyed Skyrim as much as I did because it was barely an Elder Scrolls game. I could ignore almost all the lore and all the dungeons and just ride places on my horsey. And because it was beautiful, I didn't mind the lack of RPGing, because Morrowind wasn't an RPG, not in the sense that it had meaningful dialogue and character choice.

Hmmm well I didn't mean you specifically when I said that, but yes I am the same way. I meant generally speaking this is the way things will work with this series. The fans are all over the place. Some who love 4 will hate 5. It should be fun to watch.

I've had buyers remorse with only one genre of game.

Online survival/basebuilding/hunting games, Rust, Ark, DayZ, etc.

No other game has shown me that not only will idiots (like myself) buy an unfinished game which will always be a piece of shit, but that humans in such games are never going to be nice, ever.

I never had buyers remorse with Fallout 3, I found it quite enjoyable on the PS3, and later with Tale of Two Wastelands in NV.

How can Fallout 5 be more of a degeneration than Fallout 4? Taking out the choice and playing a fully rendered character like Joel from Last of US, would actually be an improvement. BUildingthe entire game around settlement building and being an actual Wasteland Elder where you had to manage your people concerns and problems would be better.

I will be honest, I think Fallout 4 was a worst case scenario for Bethesda. It sold really well, on the other hand they made their base really unhappy. And think this is because Fallout is their secondary line, and thus disposable. Fallout 4 was where they could try every half-baked and bad idea they had for Elder Scrolls 6 and see how it worked. And judging from Far Harbor and Nuka World, they came to the conclusion that skill checks are necessary, options are necessary and actual writing is necessary.

Fallout 4 was very sloppy and they burned a lot of goodwill for it. They won't make that mistake for Elder Scrolls 6, because Elder Scrolls is their baby.

I'm not so sure. If they know loads of people will pre-order it like they did with Fallout 4, who's the say the quality will be any good?

Haven't played FO4, but judging from what people have been saying about the characters they made, from Nate/Nora to SHAUUUUNNN, and the companions, they ain't getting any better. Some would say the companions are better this time around, but nowhere near the level of New Vegas. I also haven't played The Last of Us, but..... do you really think Bethesda could make half-decent believable characters which would help immerse you in the story? Considering their strong point is making games where people can just fuck around and lollygagging in empty spaces, not the story in which you have to intensely LARP.

Judging from Morrowind to Oblivion to skyrim, ES6 is going to be laughable.

And make a billion dollars+, for some reason.

Which will make me a sad panda.

I wish I shared your optimism. They're on a bad trajectory and I don't think they realize it. They're trying to make the most basic game possible to appeal to the widest audience.

Apparently nobody throughout its development said, "a voiced protagonist in a Fallout game is a horrible idea", or, "how come every quest is solved by killing and/or fetching an item?" If they did, then their concerns weren't heeded.

The fan-base doesn't help either. They're blindly praising the game. I hear so many people say, "The Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 4 is so much worse than Fallout 3" when they improved them and brought them back to their roots, if anything. I think they're listening to these people, not the hardcore RPG fans.

Eh the BOS was never an über racist cult following a blood line so I wouldnt say its back to its roots. Tbh I found both dictator BOS and white knight BOS with civil war to be really interesting on paper. Theres a lot of places you could go with both of these. But because its bethesda we got poorly written, poorly executed, garbage.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's true BoS but it seems a little closer to the way they were originally depicted. They went too far w/ that angle. I prefer a xenophobic, elitist BoS to a group of sellf-less do-gooders. They were always kind of pricks-- but they turned them into straight-up assholes. Not to mention, the FO4 brotherhood is the polar opposite of secretive, isolationist, tech-hoarders. They leave piles of dead Paladins, power armor, and laser weapons all over the Commonwealth.

Eh......... They never came off as xenophobic or elitist tbh. Obviously they didn't care much about outsiders but I never got the sense that they hated or feared them. Once you're in they're all reasonably amicable towards your presence.

I counter with cabbot. He's arguably one of the nicest character in the game. The only one that was a prick in the BOS to my memory was paladin Rhombus.
