C&C is died?

Ah, RA2! There's that neaty keyboard shortcut, which makes your soldiers celebrate victory with loudly shouting. It was the C or X key? I can't remember correctly, but it's fun. :)

Dark Reign 2 sorta fizzled out the DK franchise, not sure how as it was well reviewed. Never tried it as I brought Dogs of War instead, though the lack of bright, vibrant and detailed graphics of the first one being replaced by bland 3d and fog probably didn't help.
Dark Reign 2 was shit, there's no contesting that. But DR1 & its expansion was pretty damn great for it's day.

Diverse unit design.
Asymmetrical, yet well balanced factions.
AI that could be set to patrol points, set to scout alone and set to various aggressivity levels.
Artillery that was actually capable of shooting multiple screens away.
Great voice acting.

It was C, I used to time the cheers to the music. X was really helpful as well as it made your units spread out to escape the rather effective miner crush tactic.

Always like the beta screenshots such as the one .Pixote. posted, they almost always contain a unit that doesn't make it in. An example being that tank in the bottom right and Tiberium Sun's screens having this cool chunky infantry sprite that wasn't used.

Loved TS. Army of Cyborgs with a cyborg commando leading the way. Heal up in Tiberion fields between hit and run missions with the subterranean APCs. So much fun.

The biggest letdown for me was Generals, fun gameplay, but zero plot, which is what makes C&C fun.

Anyone ever play Renegade multiplayer? That was a blast.

Just replayed RA2 a few weeks ago and now playing Yuri's revenge for the first time and enjoying it like it was released yesterday :)

I think RA2 wasn't as good like Red Alert. But it is still nice. Definitely a lot better then that garbage Generals. Or what came after that.

And I have to say that RA2 aged pretty well, something that I cant say about other RTS games. I am not sure if it has something to do with the fact that it was not completely made in 3D. But I might be wrong here.

maybe it is just nostalgia because we grew up with those games, but I have the feeling that games that many of the old games particularly RTS games aged better compared to the new ones where everything is in 3D. I mean I could still play Tiberian Sun or Red Alert 2 even today without getting a spasm. But other games like Age of Mythology? Or Stronghold 2? Urgh ...

Generals with the expansion was not bad but it did not really have the C&C feeling over it.

Ahh nostalgia just hit me when i thought of the times back in the days when the first demo for C&C was released and i played it over and over on my brothers playstation.. Not to mention many years later when i found out that on one of the missions/the mission there is an UFO at the start

yeah well I never moved further then the second mission of generals. I have yet to play some RTS that was more garbage. I hate games that dont have a story line. And I still dont get it why there was a need to call it Command and Conquer. What had the game actually in common with any of the C&C games besides that you had units crawling around on the screen shooting each other.

It is true, Generals was a pretty lousy CnC title, but it is still a solid RTS title on its own.
The "story" is a cheesy excuse for a mission after mission, each time with a new unit, but those are fun to play from a pure gameplay perspective (I still fondly remember the moment when GLA tears down the whole dam with two rocket buggies).
Not to mention that the MP, which is still alive, is pretty good and to me, was great fun, way back.

yeah, but half of the fun in CnC, for me at least was always the story and the cheesy missions. You know? Stalin or Kane, the Allies vs the Soviets, GDI and NoD. That was pretty awesome. Generals ... did they even tried it?

Well they didn't try because one of the main reasons for lack of a fmv story was the criticism of how zany RA2 was in that department, there was a certain amount of fan backlash against it who wanted to see a return to the more serious C&C 1. This is not say Generals was that serious, the story is basically Tom Clancy if the evil forrun types were happily insane, basically House Harkonen from Emperor Battle For Dune in turbans. Also Zero Hour attempted to make amends for going to far the other way by bringing back a few fmv cutscenes mostly focusing on reporters for each side.
I retrospect I can't really fault the decision to experiment a bit of the beaten C&C path, stick to it to much and you get C&C:4 where Kaine turns out to be a space alien who has shepherded humanity in an attempt to ET phone home... or something.
It is a tad dry compared to other C&C titles but the mechanics, which are more based on Battle For Dune than C&C, made it a choice game for those that liked gameplay over story. Your opinions aren't wrong, just a bit extreme, it's just hard to agree that it's the worst rts ever, especially as I have played Hundred Swords.

Also it's hard to stay mad at a game with toxin tractors, he's just so cheery about his job. :V

I think it was a pretty crappy idea to put Red Alert 3 on water. I'm a huge RA2 fan, but I always hated the water missions. Then they made RA3 a waterworld like game. I watched the trailer of the game, and I disliked it so much, I never even bought the RA3 game.

I have "The First Decade" collection, I have a problem with that too. If you want to install a game, you must type in a 50 character code. Per game. Why the Hell I must type in like 9 times 50 characters? That's so annoying! If you have an illegal copy you don't need to type any codes for that. You don't even need to install it, just unzip it.

Anyway, they should go back to the C&C roots.

I played the s*it out of Red Alert 1 and a bit of C&C War something but I never went further in the series, still is sad that a series with the game that I considered one of the best reached this point.

Which time? they litterly have it in every campagin in the game.

See Generals wasn't a poor CnC game. it is a poor StarCraft game. Another big problem with the game was the inconsistent art style. all the little pictures have real world looking US soilders with their MARPAT camo but the little dude running around with looks like a blue Power Ranger. Got no idea what was up with GLA guys and their green Rain Boots.

The game was still fun. pretty stupid(even for a CnC game, and that is saying something) but fun.

Man, that was long time ago. I think it was in US campaign. Fifth mission or something. I don't know, really.
