Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare.

rofl. i dont see how saying i wont download it is promoting warez, especially since it's available for download on Steam, ye know...

Red Orchestra and Close Combat are both available on Steam.

Brought to you by Valve

Valve ... We can handle your money better than you can.....

The problem with the CoD games have always been that you need to retch a certain point for a script to kick in so you can continue. Endless waves of enemys really killed those games imo.

I haven't played very far in CoD 4 yet but there seem to be a bit better than in the previous games. There are also SAS missions that seems to be concentrated on fewer enemys and more stealth etc compared to when you play as a grunt.

Yea nice to see some fellow Close Combat fans :) We should have a game some day.

Finished the SP campaign....

I think I just shat my knickers.

That was one hell of a ride guys. I'm not shitting you. Short, but jesus the SP was... I think it just renewed my faith in gaming.

I got tired of Call of Duty after Call of Duty 2, but Call of Duty 4 renewed my interest in the franchise. Some of the coolest elements that an FPS can offer were pulled off superbly with this game. I still rank it below ArmA (mostly because I'm a stubborn bastich), but it's still my second favourite shooter of the year.

My favourite mission was the AC130 Spectre Gunner mission. So awesome. Trying out multiplayer now.

Also, Aliens references aplenty!

Edit:

The Deathmatch multiplayer sucks balls, as usual, unless played with small numbers and people you know. Other than that, it's fairly decent considering the garbage that's out in the market today. The ability to customise classes is nice, but that's about the only feature in it. Anyways, it's a multiplayer I'll actually replay, but won't give it precedence, say, over Red Orchestra.

How short is "short"? Disappointingly short as Halo 3?

If so, no game for me!

Short as in you'll see the credits after about 4 or 5 hours...

Though the ending is at least better than...

What mysterious planet is Master Chief landing on?
What will he encounter there?
Will Master Chief ever sucessfully purge the universe of those damnable Space Jews... Aliens!?

Find out next time on HaloBall Z!!!

That's not really saying much, though.

I thought the ending was great, and like how it's not over 'till it's over. I felt rewarded for playing the game for those six or so hours. Anyways, I got the feeling like I was playing a really long, well-made movie when I was playing CoD 4. The last level was awesome. Also, Paul Jackson and Captain Price ftw.

There's really not much required to playing the game, however. Though tactics are advertised, it's simply a 'go flank them, get cover, or get prepared to get your teeth busted in' type of game. It's nice that the enemy does actually try to flank you and uses cover, though. It's also nice to see bullets tearing through the building you're trying to get cover in. The AC130 mission puts that into perspective for the player, with every building the enemy tries to hide in, you can level to the ground.

Anyways, the prologue, the execution of the president credits sequence, everything in between, and especially the end rocked my socks. I give 9.5/10.

Spoiler!

When Price shot off Zakhaev's arm, I felt like shouting, 'it's not yours anymore!'

Thankfully, the actual game is much better than the demo.

Loved it.

Does anyone have the 360 version? Is it possible to host your own online game or are they just generated randomly/cost money to host. Also, I really miss a server list in this game. If I quit a server because the opposing team was one single clan and they were dominating completely, making the game kind of boring, I don't want to rejoin the exact same server. Stupid game. This isn't even a console thing. Most other games feature a server list, such as Gears of War.

it was ok for a COD Game and the story was decent but and this is my 10c here ... if you can run Crysis ditch CoD4 ... the openness of crysis is refreshing and it doesnt feel this railed on

The gameplay looks like utter shit though. Waste of good graphics. Environments also seem to be very dull.

Crysis looks like Halo for PC nerds.

Anyways, I have the PS3 version of COD4, and have the same problem, Overseer. They said somewhere on the infinity boards that the new update will include a server list if i remember correctly.

They'd better. I'm sick of playing on the same servers all the time.

There should be more Team Hardcore servers, too, they're really fun.

i'm going to go ahead and defend crysis sorry for the offtopic:

unlike CoD 4 up at least until the final chapter...
the enviroment is rich and detailed and interactive
there are multiple ways of taking on a situation
there is a stealth option...
i dont remember any Kill the North Koreans missions
so if you want to sneak around its no problem
weapons are way more fun and configurable
the human A.I. are quite good - finding cover .. they actually call for reinforcements which dont magically appear from nowhere but they use a beacon.. no random spawning enemies..

Granted, but I'm getting really sick and tired of games that involve shooting aliens from a first person view. It takes the fun outta the term "Headshot" anyways.

And COD4 actually has a decent multiplayer, which equals replay-ability. I don't like paying 50 bucks for 8 hours of gameplay.

The SP does look nice though.

Even if you didn't like H3, that's still a spoiler. A warning would be nice.

When Price...

Zakhaev?? You fight Chechens in the game?

They're "Russian ultra-nationalists". Honestly, I didn't find the "bad guys" to be that evil in the game, at least not as certain reviewers hyped it. Their motives were unclear and might've been the right ones, who knows?

And the AC-130 mission was cool, but it wasn't "okay" from a moral point of view. Especially considering the airplane's crew's comments every time you cowardly blew an enemy into thin air: "kaboom", "that's a kill", etc. This wouldn't be very worrying if it didn't actually happen in real life, as seen in certain Internet videos; "yeah, he looks like a bad guy, smoke him". Glorifying the use of Gunships, which is today an apparently overly brutal tactic, is kind of, well, sickening.

I kind of felt that from a moral point of view, I could just as well have been playing from the previous COD games' nazis' point of view. Overall, VERY Tom Clancy-ish plot.
