Character ideas: forum opinion

It Wandered In From the Wastes
I do not think this belongs here but I am not looking for in-game stuff, but opinions on a character. You see, I just can't seem to make a good character, and keep restarting. I have come down to about three characters:

  1. Rogue BoS chick with a survivalist flair. This character idea is simply designed as she left the BoS at a young age, and was out on her own for a while, scavenging whatever she can to get cells/EW ammunition for her guns.
  2. Ranger/cowgirl. This is pretty simple, grew up shooting, maybe was a Ranger in the NCR before mustering out on some stupid reason.
  3. The current set up, which is a tribal girl not understanding in the ways of the Mojave. Also Illiterate.
To the Moderators, I am not asking for gameplay-related stuff, so please do not lock this.

If you're focused on woman characters, here's my tip:
Barbaric queen! Half-insane Valkyria, being battle hardened by plundering and robbing as a former scout of Khans; tripping on all kind of combat drugs very hard. Specialized in melee fight, wearing decent medium armor, slicing-dicing Legion and NCR members left and right with true passion. Yes Man is the obvious choice - no gods, no masters!

I'm not exactly sure what it is a conundrum in which you find yourself. You're saying it's not gameplay related, but how are character backstories a problem of anything more than taste? Are you trying to decide what your character's proficiencies are based on your personal backstory for them? If so, the best we can do is just offer more backstories, but as I said, as a matter of taste, it wouldn't really make any difference if you didn't like them. My characters have always been "lone wolf" types, so they just specialized in whatever because it worked for them, and other suggestions of having a more directly tied-in backstory wouldn't work for me as a matter of taste. That said, there's more than just "Rogue BOS" if you want your character to be proficient in technical matters. There's plenty of other places where that technology thrives, so the backstory could be ANYTHING, really.

How you're going to get by with an "illiterate" character is beyond me, though, short of ABSOLUTE role playing. For me there are limits to how far I should need go outside of the boundaries that the game itself is already providing, and to PERSONALLY avoided reading any Skill Books or accessing any monitors or anything remotely tied to "requires literacy" would be too much demand on the level of role play. ~_~

These are not actual backstories, but just ideas for characters. My problem is that every time I get to a certain point I delete the character and restart.

The "backstories" just determine what kind of character they are. for example the "rogue" BoS would be an energy weapons, intelligent character, the Ranger would be more cowboy than grunt, and the Tribal would be light armor and melee.

You're repeating what I said. So basically "yes" is what you meant to say.

In that case, like I said, I can't imagine what your problem is. You've got to provide some kind of reasoned explanation for why you stopped, not just THAT you stopped, or we can't provide you suggestions to remedy that.

I do not know why. I just feel bored with every character I do at a certain point.

Plus, I am not looking for ways to remedy that, as I may just get stuck doing it again.

A Psycho-Addicted Chainsaw maniac? All you have to do is look at him wrong and your going to get leatherfaced.

Now that's a very good idea! Shame that we can subvert the entire game and put the Khans in charge, always liked them from the very first playthrough, even if some times they are obnoxious.

And good lord, their women are always sexy, the Kahn armorer face is one of the best in-game.

Plus the armors always look good.

PS: My builds always trip hard on drugs, so this isn't a problem.
