Chris Avellone, J.E. Sawyer, Tramell Isaac at A-kon Dallas

First time out of the vault
Hey everyone, I've lurked here off and on for about three years, and let me say that this site is invaluable to me for all the Fallout discussions I've read. Thanks everyone.

Ok, well, I just found out that both J.E. Sawyer and Tramell Isaac will be at an anime convention (AKon17) that I'm going to this weekend in Dallas. I'm incredibly psyched about it, and was wondering if anyone here could help me better understand the two of them.

I sort of recall Sawyer being mentioned here a lot, but I don't know how important he was to Fallout. I don't know anything about Tramell. I did find that Sawyer was linked to Van Buren, but was this it, or did he help work on Fallout 1/2? Also, what was Tramell's role in Fallout? I think it's artist.

I'm actually bummed that I don't have anything real cool for them to sign. All I have is a sealed dual jewel of Fallout 1 and 2. I wish I had something greater. I know value would be almost nil, but what about printing a high quality artwork picture from Fallout for them to sign? Like maybe the classic power armor cover, something like that. This is the kind of thing I'd love to have hanging on my wall.

This might help

Josh Sawyer (also known as J.E. Sawyer) is a video game designer active in the role playing game genre. He grew up in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and earned a BA degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. In addition to being a history major, Josh participated in the theatre (including mounting a production of Assassins). After Lawrence, Sawyer moved to California.

Starting as a Web Designer at Black Isle Studios, he quickly worked his way up the ladder to an associate designer position and then lead designer on Icewind Dale II.

While at Black Isle he was known for developing their "Ex-Presidents" project naming system. When Interplay closed down Black Isle Studios many team members ended up at Obsidian Entertainment, which would eventually come to include J.E. Sawyer.

In November of 2003 it was reported by Tor Thorsen of GameSpot that he had abruptly quit his role as lead designer of Fallout 3 to pursue other projects.

On July 19, 2005 Gamespot announced that he had left Midway's Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows, and was already employed by Obsidian Entertainment to work on Neverwinter Nights 2. He was preceded in that move by memorable game designer John Romero, who left work on the Gauntlet remake in June of 2005.

Sawyer is currently the lead designer of Neverwinter Nights 2.

Ah, Sawyer also worked on Torment?! This makes it even more difficult since I love Torment! Well, actually easier since I can properly know what he has done. I haven't played Icewind Dale, but I have the first one. Perhaps Sawyer will sign the insert for it, that'd be nice! I'd much rather him sign something Fallout, but seeing as he didn't exactly work on previous titles except for Van Buren.

I'd love to have Tramell sign a picture, but I don't know if having him sign a printed picture would be considered "disrespectful". I just want to be careful about this, never had anything signed before, and I have lots of respect for these guys. Since he designed Fallout 2's death scene, I think it'd be fitting to have him sign a picture of that.

Print this pic out and use it for target practice. Then have them sign it.

No, he didn't. He was website manager for the Torment site and thus inadvertedly ended up in the credits, he had nothing to do with the game itself. At all. Not even QA.

Isaac is the shiznit, tho', ask him to do a Fallout dev profile with NMA.

yesss bring back more dev profiles!

As for supercake, what they said. Lucky to see them both though that sounds cool.

And since this post is almost irrelevant... can anyone tell me where Odin/Rosh have gone off to?

T_RAY?OMG!T_RAY? You know for how many years i'm looking for that guy to do a full blown interview at NMA? OMG!!!!!!

Dude get his contact, whatever contact it might be, and send it to any of the admins on PM, pleeeeeeaaaaassseeeeeeee!

Edit: If you talk about Romans and the Roman times with Sawyer he'll love you forever.

I saw that Rosh was leaving on the main site, but I didn't happen to catch what happend to Odin. He hasent been around since begining of April.

Everyone, I just found out Chris Avellone is going to be there as well! This is unbelieveable! I'm seriously excited!

I've got to think of something for them to all sign. I'm leaning towards the death scene from Fallout 2. I'd love some good suggestions from you guys about anything Fallout that they should sign.

Chris Avellone? Also known as MCA, more than his work we are really interested in his mother. Particularly Odin. Whom i saw briefly last week, so April wasn't the last time he showed up.

I just dont know what to say...

I mean its amazing enough people like those guys are gonna attend a convention, but the fact that we got an inside man to at least take some pictures if not have an interview is toatally out of this world!

Supercake if you could manage or arrange an interview or even a few questions you'll go down in history here as one of the few people to talk to such figures of importance.

Also...you just reminded me of something I've been meaning to write a topic about here for the past few months and that I've even mentioned to a few people in secret via chat.

Thanks.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

*EDIT*

Oh wait this even already happened...I hadnt noticed it before and when I saw Briosafreak's post I thought the whole thread was new not just that one post.

There's always next year...

The problem with that is, Josh's views on Rome are so heavily over laded with religion that its impossible to discuss anything else with him.

Indeed, few have the honor of speaking with makers of such amazing and distinguished titles as Icewind Dale II and Descent to Undermountain.
