Well, teeth get stained by cigarettes too and with snus/snuff you're at least not inhaling hot cancerous smoke into your lungs. I'm not doing the stuff myself, but it's clearly the lesser of two evils.

Now cigars, that's a habit I could pick up, if only they weren't so expensive.

But then again, snus/snuff isn't good for your gumbs (I believe it's called...the tooth flesh). It's been documentet to actually damage that flesh.... one strang thing about snus/snuff is that almost all soccer players use it.. well except me..
