Companion you hated most on a personal level?

I really dislike Veronica's humor. And her last name. And her personality.

Arcade is definitely my favorite. Great writing and quest.

Only Companion I dislike is Rex, because he always gets killed by Cazadores on his quest to Jacobstown, also he is pretty weak for a melee attacker and I I want one I have much better options in Veronica, Cass and Lilly. He gets a Knockback effect if you give him Lupa's brain but that's not enough to make me want to use him. He is interesting tho, so my dislike is purely mechanical.

I liked my eye bot and cyber dog. Most companions were either complained about their personal problems or sat on ideological soapboxes.

I don't really HATE anyone of my companions. But if I'd have to pick one, it would definitely be Boone. Why?

Well, for starters, he's a war criminal. And while my character is by no means peaceful moralist, at least I never executed civilians. Bitter Springs incident, anyone? Suffice to say I used to hate Great Khans, but after hearing their side of the story, I couldn't help but feel sick towards the NCR. Well, Boone was there, knee deep in blood, so to speak.

Second of all, the moment I met him, he just seemed WRONG to me. Maybe it was because of a voice acting, that made him sound like an angsty teenager with a "leave me alone" attitude who tries to talk tough in order to trick the cashier into letting him buy beer. But as soon as I started asking around about his wife, I disliked him even more.

He is a typical guy who somehow finds a hot wife who is dumb enough to follow him to a backwater dump of a town in the middle of nowhere. He also seems to be p***y-whipped, if we're to believe Manny's side of the story, but that's not the point. Anyway, then he is surprised by the fact that she feels miserable all the time, sitting alone in her room all day. I mean, come on, what is there to do in Novac? What the hell did he expect? He can't even take her out for a dinner or something, because the nearest town is few miles away on foot, with angry ants, scorpions and raiders in between. WHAT WAS HE THINKING?!

I'd be surprised if she didn't snap one day and run back to Vegas screaming, after spending one day too many in Novac.

And even then, if you actually take him with you on his little revenge quest, you find out that he *gasp* actually feels BAD about what he did when he was in the army. Good for you, a**hole! Have a cookie! But even worse, he thinks that his wife ending up as a slave, and him being "forced" to kill her somehow ends up being HIS punishment. "You self-centered a**hole! Not EVERYTHING is about you!" you could hear my Courier screaming, if he could scream in the game. In the end, even his wife ends up paying for HIS mistakes.

So all in all, that's what I hated about him the most - he kind of is like an angsty teenager, who just keeps whining and saying it's always somebody else's fault, and everything is always, ALWAYS about him.

I did sympathize with him. I did feel bad for him. But in real life, he's the kind of a person I'd stay the hell away from.

The only other companion I could say I dislike is Cass. Simply because she is a foul-mouthed, immature, impulsive and depressed alcoholic with no more character depth than that. She is useful in a fight, after I give her some decent gear, but that's about it. In real life, I'd stay the hell away from her, regardless of how much I love redheads. Also, her quests are some of the most boring I ever saw in an RPG. A lot of running around from one corner of a map to another, and that's it.

The other companions I mostly liked. Even Lily, who is maybe the most boring character in the game. And Rex, because he is a dawgie.

I don't think i would get along with ANY of them.
Still, those are great characters, well written, well acted, with good quest and some bit of subversion at times.
You can appreciate a character and not wanting to spend time with his real-life counterpart.

Cass is just your typical, standard, flat, boring "tough" female character with some irrelevant backstory you see in most action games and movies, even books. I don't know why does this character have to be everywhere.
I don't really like any of the companions, but I don't like companions in Fallout 1 and 2, neither. Maybe I'm just not a people person. Arcade is a nice, modest guy who wants to help people, I guess that's good, but he's also a little naive imo. Boone is much better developed character than he seems to be at first sight and he has a kewl voice (fun fact: the same voice actor as Myron from F2). Raul is really down to earth and has interesting backstory, but it's not easy to get to like him. Veronica is annoying and I got her a nice dress and she didn't even wear it. Lily is more of a trivia than a full-developed companion character.

I guess Cass would be my choice if I had to choose, but I can't say I *hate* her on a personal level, I just really dislike her for reasons above.

Uhmm Cass is not a Flat character, she is actually pretty interesting. She is not a role model, she is an alcoholic who just sold the last thing that belonged to her and her family and she is loyal to the NCR but still very critical of them.

For me she's uninspired, unoriginal and easily forgettable, so is her backstory (and her sidequest).

You mean her sidequest were you find what happened to her carvan and uncover a secret monopoly between the Van Graffs and Crimson Caravan killing whomever they can't buy in the Mojave?

Yes.

okay, everything is cool when you put it like this, but this quest is just go to A > go to B > go to C > kill someone/let NCR do it. As for the plot, I felt like this conspiracy and stuff was forced and it didn't feel natural to me. No reasonable company would just attack caravan company that refused to be bought, Crimson Caravan and Van Graffs are not Legion.

Then you underestimate the power of greed. Less Caravans working the Mojave=more money for the Crimson Caravan and Van Graffs. It is a prudent business decision for them. Money and power are powerful motivators for acts of evil, you know.

I'm not saying that they are not-greedy good people. I'm saying that destroying Cass' caravans is a dumb idea, especially for a serious caravan businesses. Cassidy Caravans would go out of business eventually, it was inevitable and Crimson Caravan should have known it. Sure, attacking it was an easy solution, but business is not built on easy solutions.

Again, you underestimate it. People do stupid things for money. When people see competition, they will do ANYTHING to get rid of competition. How do you think the business men who built America (Rockefeller, Carnegie, Morgan, ETC.) Did so? They were greedy.

The stupid things wasn't to kill those caravans.
It is the logical thing to do to get rid of competition if you don't value human life, and live in the dangerous Wasteland, in which traders die every days.

The stupid things is to let evidence in the scene of the last attack.

The last attack was recent and it looks like they underestimated the caravan they were attacking.

Yet, they partially covered their tracks by hiding the brahmin under the bridges, they should have hidden the bodies or their comrades as well, or at least burn them.

So destroying these was a better idea than wait some time and but Cassidy Caravans?

Plus, as said before, leaving dead guy in van graffs armor just lying around is pretty dumb and that's another problem with this quest.

Yes, because destroying the caravan was a surefire way to get rid of it, and waiting to buy is a risk that the caravan will become real competition in the future instead of allowing them to buy. Which one would you think is the best way to get rid of a rival company?

Well I'm not an expert in postapocalyptic economy, but I don't think Cassidy Caravans had chance to become real competition. It was real competition before, but it has fallen (maybe with Crimson Caravan's "help"), Alice McLafferty would be able to buy it sooner or later, the risk was minimal.
