Testament to the ghoul lifespan

Browsing through the old game rig thread, i was wondering if you guys have names for your rigs & what they are. or if you don't have specific names for your rigs what you use to refer to them (in fits of rage or not  )

as far as as i can remember mine (only my own rigs, no shared):

- the Turbo: a 486 with a turbo boost button, awesome.
- the MMX: a P1 200Mhz MMX with a Monster 3DII 12mb 3dcard. MMX was a craptechnology, so you might as well use it as a name.
- the Furnace: an AMD slot A, that heated up like nuts when overclocked (even with a huge copper sink). no need to put on any kind of heater in the winter either...
- Trillian, alternatively Tricia: a solid P4 rig with some quirks and a will of its own (hence female)
- Colin, the happy droid: in the hitchhikersguide to the galaxy Ford captures Colin by trapping the robot with his towel and re-wiring the robot's pleasure circuits, inducing a cyber-ecstasy trip. this particular dualcore rig has indeed been nothing but a blast. insane overclocker, way below spec voltage, simply cold...

I haven't named my computer, but I always used to name floppies "MYKO" so that's what my memory stick is called. I also named my bike.

Meh. Mine's called Zenith... it's written on its front panel, after all...

Though I revel in naming my Toshiba Satellite pro laptops after Saturn's moons ;)

I use machine parts for names, mainly for simple identification on networks. It is something I started doing a few years ago, and I've kept on as a tradition since. My current computer is 'Flywheel' and my older laptop is 'Sprocket.' My troublesome old desktop is 'Kalamazoo,' named for an equally troublesome old metal cutting bandsaw we had in the shop (we called it the 'Kalamazoo' because that is where it was manufactured, it differentiated it from the other bandsaws, and the name has a certain charm).

I don't think I've ever called my computers by these names however, besides pointing out which computer is mine on a network.

I don't name them, 'though my PC's current identity on the network is SYL after Strapping Young Lad.

A housemate of mine names his pcs and servers steadfastly after old gabber lps and songs on those lps he has lying around. Weird duder.

Don't really have a name per say, but I sometimes refer to it as 'The Sumo computer'.

I got a nickname long ago (Sumo-Dan) and it just stuck with me.

Moyra, was my old machine named it after a neighbour it got the name just before I got rid of it because it was a old and had more replacement parts than she did.

Haven't got a name for the new one yet and suggestions?

My last computer actually asked me to name it which I guess is an MSXP thing. I called the last one "Gaming Rig" and this new one "Black Box" since it's all black.

Neat idea for a thread.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

On this installation of XP, i was asked to name my pc, so i guess this things called "Ownage Caravan".

I've always named my various devices girls names.

My old stationary is called Marla (took it from fight club),
My laptop is called Molly (took it from Neuromancer)
and my PSP is called Mona (My mums name)

I don't usually name my PCs, but when my 8-year-old Celeron 400 freezes, I tend to refer to it as "Heap Of Junk" or "Slow Piece Of Shit", depending on the number of restarts it takes to recover.

My laptop goes by the name of 2P600. My initials are MMPDC and one day I realised that MMDC in Roman numerals is 2600. The P doesn't translate, so I just slapped it right back in and got something that I thought was a nice name for a computer.

I usually call my PC "Fucking Piece of Shit" or just "Piece of Shit"

my specs:

Ati Radeon 9800Pro
P4 2,7Ghz
1GB RAM

I don't have a name for my current desktop, but my server is identified on the LAN as Cyber, because I wanted to name it after an old computer type.

All my computers share the same name - "Jebana kupa złomu".

It's a Polish thing, we all name perfectly working machinery and electronic miscellanea like this.

After getting wary of the racket my five cooling fans make, my mother baptized my computer "The Battlecruiser".
