Got this in my e-mail and I thought it was worth a look. Dunno if the statements are true, but I'm willing to assume for now that they are.

Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics, 29 have been accused of spousal abuse, 7 have been arrested for fraud, 19 have been accused of writing bad checks.

117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year...

Can you guess which organization this is?

Give up yet?

It's the 535 members of the United States Congress.

*shrugs* I say fuck it, and will continue to say that as long as they keep agreeing to give me pay raises.

No biggie. Bankruptcy is fairly common.

3 have done time for assault

I can see that.

71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit

Considering the bankruptcy that's not too surprising, but still - pretty crappy.

14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
That's funny. I wonder how many are republicans
8 have been arrested for shoplifting

See above.
21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year...

Being a defendant in a lawsuit is not surprising. Actually I am surprised there aren't more.

drunk driving last year- that's embarrassing. I wonder how many republicans vs democrats.

Meh. You know my views on governments and politicians.
American, French, Polish, English, Russian, Soviet, Chinese, Roman...

Corrupt and flawed. All of them. Not only the United States Congress.

Remember that despite the fact that politicians would like to be regarded as gods, they still are humans, with all the defects entitled to the species.

I got a forwarded email with that in it as well. Did yours have the thing comparing Hitler and FDR?

You forgot to mention 'Belgian'. They should definitely be second in this list.
I remember this episode of MacGyver in which he had to do some secret mission in a fictive corrupt South-American country. The country was named "New Belgium". Very appropriate, I'd say.

That's easy talking, 'humans, with all the defects entitled to the species'. Huh! Politicians are villains, all of them, even the ones that say the right things and accept bribes when you turn your back. They are the scum of this earth and should be dragged to the guillotine. Vive la révolution!

Somehow, I knew this thread was gonna be 'bout politicians

I'm surprised at the relatively low ratio of drunk driving arrests. Happens all the time. We even had a special "condition" invented in Poland to exculpate politicians from these kind of charges :D It's not like anyone can get them to stand trial after all, is it?

Congressmen cannot stand trial or be arrested while Congress is in session.

They also have "congressional priviledge" which helps them get out of certain things...parking fees, tickets, etc.

And the question about Beethoven being born? Yeah, that's the one.

Bladerunner, how old are you? You're like one of those old bastards behind a bar complaining about how rotten Belgium is.

Which it isn't, by the way. There are an enormous amount of stupid politicians in Belgium, I'll grant you that, but corruptness among POLITICIANS (!) is really quite low.

And don't even think about bringing up the act of burning money now, because that is OLD. And it happened quite some years ago, too.

I'm gonna be 28 in a couple of days, but you're absolutely right: I'm bitter and extremely disappointed in Belgium, in life, in the world and... in YOU! If anything, we should stick together, 'cause you might not fully get it yet, but we're in the same shithole.

Oh yeah, the Agusta scandal, and the socialists (the socialists, of all people!) burning money... But that's old news, I agree. So what do you think about these: the Visa card scandal in Antwerp? The murdering of Cools? Even the Dutroux affair most certainly shows political ambiguities. Pink ballet anyone (pedophile scandals involving our royal family)? Shit, Jebus, you should read a newspaper now and then. Watch the news. Surf the internet. Hell, maybe I'm the one who should ask YOU how old YOU are.

Even our neighbouring countries know that Belgium is no good and corrupt to the bone. Haemers anyone? The rebel who hanged himself... ON A FREAKING RADIATOR HALF A METER ABOVE THE GROUND? WITHOUT HAVING ANY SHOELACES IN HIS CELL WHERE HE WAS CONSTANTLY BEING WATCHED AND DRUGGED? The Nijvel gang? Helloooo? Anyone there? Helloooo?

Let me guess: you a socialist, Jebus?

Well, you got a point there, Silencer. You always have a point.

Nevertheless, one should always concentrate on the country one is living in. Would you give the same advice to an American, knowing how corrupt their government is? I wouldn't. Revolting against corrupt societies is a good thing. People should not be puppets on a string when they know that the strings are in the hands of corrupt, no good politicians. Even if they have the money to buy plastic garbage and sweaty hamburgers that clog their veins.

Well, that's my opinion. But you're right, Silencer. I should ease down. I should take my daily pink pill and hide in the shadows. Then, when no one remembers me and when I've managed to erase all traces that could possibly lead to my existence and hide-out, I should look for some guys who think exactly like I do, form a terrorist group and start the revolution. Yeah, baby!

I'm working on it. Might have to give up my internet connection, though, but that's only a small price to pay when you want to put things straight.
