Custom Art Repository

I really need some help. I'm trying to make some armor for Fallout 2 game but I can't get started. I found a few tutorials, but the programs they suggest to use sometimes don't work, so I get a different program to accomplish the same thing and I look at it and get confused. Apparently one FRM file contains 6 orientations with 12 frames each. Do I need to convert each and every orientation+frame to BMP separately? Or will just converting the base FRM to BMP work? I don't think it will because when I look at how many base FRM files I have I think they couldn't possibly contain all orientations+frames for the model I want to use. I want to edit some armor (which I'm sure means I have to edit a critter file or something, since armor just changes your animation set that of a different "critter", pretty much.). Then I want to make the armor into an item and place it into the world. Or at the very least, edit an existing armor to make the player look like my custom armor. Please help!

I wouldn't give up yet. Sometimes it takes awhile for someone to see the question that has the answer. Or, you could re post your query on a new topic thread to get attention to it. It might get overlooked here.

Thanks Dude101. I wasn't sure If I had to make a totally new critter or not. I have already started organizing the folders and stuff and I have edited one image to my liking. After seeing all the work involved I am going to just make one armor sprite, instead of all the variations of it I was originally thinking about. I may have lots of time, but I can only handle so much tedium before I get burned out and quit. So yea, just one armor sprite for now.

This is completely unrelated, but I didn't find a thread that seemed appropriate for this question that's bugging me. How people feel about the killable children in this game? When I was first playing this game when I was young I didn't think about it at all (they're just sprites, after all) but after recently picking the game up again, and seeing Cassidy blast a little kid to bits with a burst-fire shotgun I thought to myself, "that's kinda fucked up." It bothered me for a while. Sure, you are never forced to kill a kid in the game, none of them are enemies, and even if they are hostile for some reason, you can ignore them. But you can't control your followers, and they just kill whatever is hostile. Watching a little kid die on my screen doesn't sit well with me. I have friends with kids, what would they think if they found out I play a game where kids can be killed in horrible ways? Am I making too a big a deal out of this, or are there others that feel the same way?

The only way to fix that is to delete the kid FRMs from master.dat and anything in the data folder, this is how is was patched for German release where it was not allowed. Some people have an issue with it. Personally when I play games I want full immersion and do not want the game to care about my feelings.

I agree. Pretending that children just didn't exist in the world of Fallout is asinine. It's pretty easy to avoid hurting them. But I have told people in the past that I play this game in which it's possible to kill little kids, and they look at me like I'm psycho. I feel like I have to keep this game a secret now, because if I suggest it to somebody, what happens when they're playing it and they see Marcus roast a 9 year old with a Flamer? Either I warn them ahead of time that killing kids is possible, and they think I'm sick, or I keep my mouth shut and they see it for themselves.

I think you need to find better people to play games with. Your associates sound rather childish and wrongheaded to suggest something is wrong with you because a computer game lets bad things happen. People are so infantalised these days. Denial of moral agency and accountability seems to be a growing trend IMO. We better go to PMs if you want to continue as this is off-topic.

Naw, let's just end it here.

Back on topic...Looks like I have over 5,ooo files to edit. Guess I won't be finishing this as soon as I originally thought, lol. I have to be REALLY careful. If I make one little mistake, I won't know where I went wrong and will have to start all over. I'm looking for ways to avoid that, any suggestions beyond the obvious be careful and organized?

It's been many years since this has probably been relevant, but I've taken the past few days to clean up the Modding Wiki's custom art repository. As I see it, almost all of the old links I try to dig up for various pieces of art, tools, and other goodies in this community are going dead. Not to say that everything is dying out, but I would still vouch for the wiki as a long-term hosting solution for tons of custom artwork considering the longevity of wikis as a whole. The one thing I don't ever see being hosted there is art archives because I'm sure the wiki staff would cringe at the idea of hosting .rars with unknown contents :P

Regardless, if anyone could be bothered to still check it out I've streamlined all of the art hosting pages. Ideally, with some more focus on layout adjustments they'll be nice to look at when full of art. I'll be posting from whatever I have left on my old HDDs to try and fill them out a little more.

On that topic, if there is any interest in adjusting the color scheme or any other significant portions of the wiki layout, I'd be happy to tweak it to the best of my ability. Cheers!

--Edit--

I implore that anyone who visits the wiki enable an adblocker because it seems there's a huge ad spanning the entire site background. Which ya know, invalidates the whole point of having a background.

Whole wikia is a single add. It's cancerous and should be killed off, imo. Same thing happened to the Vault (now Nukapedia). Just sucks that all internet links are leading to this shithole.

I haven't visited Nukapedia since wikia started rolling out all of their standardized layouts and the good dudes like Ausir left. He did bring the Vault to Curse though and that site layout is easily leagues better.

Call me stubborn but I see Vault-Tec Labs as an incredible resource, and to squander it seems so very wasteful. Unfortunately, the hardest part of utilizing it properly is that all of the site layout and article content needs to be finely curated. I don't blame everyone for not wanting to help with that in addition to contributing to the modding content honestly. Here and there over the course of the next couple weeks I'll attempt to roll out my vision for a much better gallery-style layout on the custom art pages.
