Decent Sci-Fi FPS

i forgot it because it was so short, but awesome nonetheless. and i didnt like the ending too much. perhaps i expected some kind of über ending, like in chronicles...

I think they are redoing it making it end where the film starts. Assault on Dark Athena should be longer.

Try these (not new, but you didn't mention them):

Star Wars Republic Commando

Timeshift

Gears of War

Mass Effect

Crysis (the nanosuit is Sci-Fi, as are the aliens late game)

Can't remember when it comes out, but hopefully Chronicles Of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena is as good as it sounds, it's supposed to be the original game, plus a whole other, like what happened after the whole Butcher Bay incident.

No, I'm serious. Check this one out ! And forget about Blacksite.

Which one are you talking about? There is one that came out recently and an older one with M Manson voicing some aliens.

I'm talking about the 2007 one. I've liked both demos but they were about the only parts of the game that weren't bugged and were somewhat interesting. The worst part for me was the scene of the outdoors cinema with the helicopter and its huge framerate drops. The plot was laughable but what was even more laughable was that the project lead guy tried to make it sound like it were very provocative and ballsy while it is just plain cliché. Countless bugs, broken pathfinding, very poor use of Stranglehold's destruction engine, missing shadows. Oh and were they really serious with their lack of animation when the characters use ropes ? The end just plain sucked. I really hate this game with a passion. Fortunately I could sell it to the same price I've bought it.

The previous Area 51 episode was an ok game. A brainless shooter with somewhat spectacular sequences. Oh, and the game was actually finished when it hit shelves...

Hello all of you,

Sorry for the lateness in response.

I will go by the various games you all have mentioned.

Project Origin: I did mention it, I have F.E.A.R. and all its unofficial expansions but I found the games a bit boring to be honest as they continued on.
As for little girls, after F.E.A.R. I feel more like hitting them with a car than be afraid of them.

Prey & Crysis: I am a little in doubt about both but Prey should be cheap now so its really not the price.
As for Crysis, well I guess I am one of the people who didn't care much for it even though I came very close to the ending.

Gears of War: hmmm, what that game seems to scream most is "EXTREEEEMMEE!"

Heh, I actually have most of the Star Wars and Star Trek shooters and there are indeed enjoyable ones.

STALKER: Still need to play this one.

Chronicles of Riddick: I actually have this one but after a while I didn't bother with it anymore and later put it for sale.

Blacksite: I am not going to bother with this one.
You warned me in advance MrBumble, remember?
We compared it with the earlier game with the same name.

Tron 2.0

Do it. Smoke a bowl you fucking college student! SMOKE IT AND PLAY TRON! AND THEN GO WATCH MTV you ass.

Woho thats good and yeah Dutch Ghost, Pray Is another one worth mentioning. As for Blacksite 51 haven't played it, but at the release hype was big. Now Gears Of Wars I am playing right now and its ok. But its missing something, the lack of ability to customize your gear and small weapon arsenal are my gripe. All and all I have seen worse, Id say its better then The THING.

Hello generalissimofurioso,

Yeah, I just read on a Dutch game site here.

Made a small mistake with that list by the way, I didn't mean I nearly finished Crysis as I haven't played that game yet, but rather I nearly finished its 'spiritual' predecessor Far Cry before I decided to quit.

Hi Dopemine Cleric,

Heh, have that game and finished it.

Hi GreyViper,

Somehow Gears of War doesn't really do it for me, it can't reallt grab me.
I wouldn't bother with Blacksite if I were you.

No "hi Makenshi, i played/didn't play TimeShift"? :(

I know the frustration... you stopped:

A) At the Dam - no guns against "madmonkeys"...

B) At the Volcano - "madmutants" with infinite rocket-lauchers...

C) At the lab - indestructible riot shields and more rockets launchers... in a corridor

Sorry Makenshi, hello :D

Nope, I haven't played Timeshift, for some reason I ignored it.

As for Far Cry, yeah, at some point I got so tired of the frustrating battles, I hated the helicopter battle, that I simply quit.

I think Timeshift is very much ok, I just wish it had much more puzzles and much more subtle (or none at all) hints as to solving them. Still I had a good time playing it.
I also agree on Prey, it's pretty short but I found it to be such a fun ride that I finished it 5 times or so. It's also one of the least frustrating games I have ever played.
Well for those who haven't played STALKER, that goes without saying, you are missing out on one of the most unique games of nowadays, at least in atmosphere department that is.. No matter how flawed and bug-ridden, it is still way better than most of what comes out nowadays. Kinda reminds me of Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines because of that, which I still think is the only game to match first Fallout games in story and dialogue department.
