I think what Bethesda is doing is brilliant. They took an obscure rpg game and mad it for the casual dumb dumb. Ppl are just made but they weren't mad when Wolfenstein was dumbed down. *troll face*

I feel it's at the point where it's an indies job to make those rpg for book readers and nerds. AAA is about splosions first and then substance if there is time.

So yeah fallout 3 was brilliant for what it was. A sandbox hiking game.

Well, it's not. It's just a horrible 'game'. F4 didn't even resonate as much as Fallout 3 back in the day.

Yup. The whole "Fallout 4 isn't a bad game, it's just a bad Fallout game" is nothing more than mental gymnastics and rationalization. Even I tried to rationalize away this disaster when I was determined to like the game. But no, I gave it about 200 hours to be a good game and it's simply a lazy cash grab for ultra casuals.

Fallout 4 is an insult even to Fallout 3 fans. We don't even need to get into the other Fallout games when discussing it's abhorrent design decisions. If you're a fan of any of the previous Fallout games, Fallout 4 was not made for you. If you happen to enjoy it anyway then that's great, but it's a coincidence. The game was made for ultra casuals who hate RPGs and never enjoyed Fallout. Made by people who brag about lacking the attention span for RPG dialogue.

Face it, Borderlands is what filthy peasants want, and Fallout 1, 2 and NV is what the PC master race and real Fallout fans want. If we banned filthy peasants from playing Fallout on their stupid machines, we would have good Fallout again!

That's too much of ferocity for a real Fallout fan, typical for a console crowd (more specific - sonyfanboys). After all, New Vegas was released on consoles.

It's not the platform that makes a game stupid, it's the developer.

Bethesda's design philosophy for Fallout 4 was "let's make this our most dumbed down game of all time" and they sure succeeded.

That said, their target is obviously consoles - just look at the user interfaces for their last two games lol.

I liked his art, but I don't feel it was right for FO3. It was too much "diesel" or whatever the fuck subgenre you call it, and way too overdetailed. FO4 cleaned it up a bit and I think it resembled the earlier ones a bit more.

Here's what Bethesda does right;
-World design. They're really good at making worlds that are fun to be in.

I've never understood why this is said to be a strong point of Bethesda. Tbh the only world They made that made any modicum of sense was vvardenfell. Then cyrodiil conflicted with past lore and therefore made little sense and was generic as all hell. Then the capital wasteland was boring And entirely nonsensical with some 'decent' atmosphere. Then skyrim's world space while technically varied was just mountains, forest mountains, and swampy mountains. Then the commonwealth was a less sensical
version of the capital wasteland. Bethesda is horrible at world design.

Why? Obsideian makes better written, better designed, and more fun rpgs than Beth. What would obsidian gain from being bought by a company that is incapable of doing any of that?
