Disabling yellow force fields in FO1 - too damn fast...

First time out of the vault
If I disable the the yellow force fields, it flickers for a short phase of a second and there is no chance to pass by. I have athlon xp 1800, msi kt277pro board, with the damn win XP on it. I'm not sure about FO1, but I definitely didn't have any problems on win98. I already disabled audio and video acceleration, and no effect. I also tried overclocking programs, but there is no option for slow down FSB.
There just should be some setting in the winxp or DirectX registry.

please help... because they don't make those "turbo" buttons anymore...

Perhaps entering combat helps?

If not, you can also blow up the forcefield generator (the same thing you use to disable the thing), which, I believe, turns the field from yellow to red. Use dynamite for this.

Use repair on the forcefield, if it only starts flickering try again. "Repair" the forcefield until it's possible to pass it .

ofcourse I use "repair", but the problem is that the interval is too short (1 millisecond) because we have very fast machines these days.

But what generator are you talking about, the computer or the small red console next to some force fields?

thanks.

Using repair , shuts the force field generator off permanently or temporarly.
If you try repairing it many (many, many, many, many, many) times, eventually the force field gets shut down permanently.

this is bullshit. I tried 50 times and then I start to think like a fool who believes every damn stupid thing they advise you on forums.
Or... (no offence) it can be the reason of a russian version of FO1.

heh, no need to get offensive.

Well, if the thing truly flickers too fast to fix, I suggest you do what I mentioned and blow it up. It'll make the forcefield go away or turn red. Simply put the timer on 10 secs or so and drop the c4 next to generator (the same thing you use the repair skill on)

Yeah, watch your tongue or we're gonna have to bitchslap you a couple of times.

This is without any doubt the most ridiculous statement I've read so far on these forums. As if you can't play Fallout or Fallout 2 on - for instance - a P4 or an Athlon 1.8 because the processor is too fast. Ha. Haha. Bwahahaha!

Look, there's two ways of disabling the forcefields, whether you like it or not:

1. Use 'Repair' on it
2. Blow it to smithereens

There are some forcefields (if I remember correctly) that can be shut down with the help of a computer in the game, but that's it.

Alright now?

Thank you very much, everyone. In my situation only blowing up works. I still find it a very stupid advise to try to disable it ( how many times?), it's a good joke actually and I trapped in it.
And why you suddenly assume that I'm aggressive, offensive and al that stuff?

Ask babies for the biggest advise about your life.

By the way Blade Runner, I want to remind you about those "turbo" buttons on Pentium first generation PC's. You deserve to laugh at my statement if you remeber that.

You still don't get it, do you? You CAN disable forcefields by using 'Repair' on them. It's NOT a joke, it's the truth.

Hm. Maybe because of this:

Nah, sorry, don't remember, but hey: I'm still laughing. I've played Fallout 2 on a brand new Pentium 4 with Windws XP about two weeks ago. Everything was just fine.

Look, I never said that I cannot use repair on the fields. I can, it works, I see "you temporarily disable the force fields", but the problem is that it's disabled for one millisecond. And as I told blowing up works just fine.
It's the fact that you can disable the force fields permanently by repairing them many many many times is BULLSHIT. Please read the posts carefully.

And now the "turbo" button...
I also never knew what it was for till last year. The friend told me that at that time there were a lot of MS-DOS applications that worked too fast on 1st pentium processors. And that button disables the multipliers or just reduce the power of pentium. I believe 486 couldn't be faster that FSB speed, because of no multipliers.

Ok, this thread veered so far off topic it's not even funny.

Question answered, so the thread's purpose is served.

Locked.
