didn't realize they finished it, they've been working on it for a very long time and last I heard it sounded like it might not get released. I will definitely check it out. I really like the two first games. yes, they are very similar to the HoMM games but I feel they are much more strategical and they way you level up all units is a lot more interesting than HoMM. I've also found the Disciples games to be very aesthetically pleasing and the third game looks even better than the previous two.

I wasn't impressed with Disciples 2 but given that they changed the part that I had the biggest problem with, the combat, I'm quite interested. It does look pretty similar to HoMM but it does have more shinnies, I just wonder if it's deeper than that...

    Anyone played it yet?

i dont know but for some reason i think that an old HOMM copy would better.

from what i gathered the its more campaign like maps, less economical, less fighting options, less races.
the armies are hero like, meaning you dont buy 100 archers you got only one who gains experience and get stronger ...
which means no matter how wounded he is he always deals the ~same amount of damage so its just about focusing your attack on one.
their castles seem to have more building but all of them seem to be warrior related, no economical or defense or some extra ...

maybe there is more to it but unless i find convincing demo i would not waste money on it.

    Russian quality ?

if its really buged than I have to pass it. Though I havnt read about it in any of the reviews. Which feels kinda odd.

well Russian/Eastern games ... tend to have a certain style in them which is what he means eventualy.

Compare Metro33 to some similar "western" shooter. In some of them you get usualy some people doing the voices which are most of the time mediocre but alright. In Metro the english voice acting was already bad. But boy ... the German one sucked so hard. It was not possible to play with it. Thing is they hired a guy for the voice of the player which is also giving comments in a show here that is like americas idol. So always when I played the game it feelt like watching that stupid show ... thx god I understand enough english to never have any trouble in shooters.

Oh and to mention that. Pretty much any Russian game I played so far always gave english voices russian accent. For what ever reason

I really enjoyed Disciples 2 Gold: the maps, cities, chess-like battles- I thought it was a fun game. Disciples 3 seems to have traded some of the simple-but-functional game elements that worked so well in D2 for fancier graphics in D3.

In D3, the game world looks really nice but items you can loot / interact with on the world map are not always obvious (unlike D2). Your field of view is much smaller in D3 than D2 so depending on your play style, you might dislike that (I do). Rotating the camera is nice, but scrolling the map with your mouse feels sluggish. Also, when you're planning to move a distance that requires multiple turns, your path marker no longer tells you how many turns it will take to complete. Small annoyance- but it seems like a useful feature that was removed. Also, unless I'm missing something, there are almost no keyboard shortcuts! This is kind of frustrating for me, but I'm sure some people won't mind it.

What stands out as the biggest improvement is battle. Now there is a hexagon-covered battlefield when you engage an enemy. Each of your troops can move a unique amount of hexes, and ditto for the enemy. When you mouse over the enemy, you can see their movement range, HP and Attack Power. Currently, attack power is bugged and you have to right-click on the enemy to get the real number. Kind of strange that the 1.06 version has this problem. The inclusion of battlefield obstacles like rocks and ruins is a nice touch, as are the "tactical spots" on the battle field. These spots are essentially tree stumps that will either double your melee, ranged or magic damage. These things combine to make the battle system a decent improvement over the somewhat rote combat of D2.

FYI this is based on the RU version of Disciples 3 patched to 1.06 and with english text.

edit: forgot to mention- when in battle, you can now see the order in which units take their turn. Good shit!

I've never played the old HOMM games so I can't say. From the looks of that video that you linked- combat is very similar with the addition of battlefield obstacles / tactical spots.

If HOMM 5 has the same style worldmap, resource acquisition, "capital city buildings dictates unit level-path" and leader system that disciples has then I suppose they're similar. A nice touch to D3 is that it includes the cinematic close ups of fights that the HOMM 5 video has, but you can also disable them (thankfully) and increase the combat animation speed to "very fast", both of which are a necessity for me.

At release time (russian release, when I got it - when they basically released a beta version) it was a bugged glitchy unbalanced PoS that bored me a couple of hours in. They may have patched some stuff, but I don't know how much. The campaign is still linear and boring, as well as pretty unchallenging. There is still no multiplayer and none in sight, no short quests like in the older games either. In short, to me it's an attempt to make some fast cash off a popular title. I wouldn't recommend it until they release all the addons and hopefully MP support.

If you want a good TBS game get Disciples II Gold and/or Rise of the Elves, it's a much better game. Once you've played that for a while if you like it, grab the Disciples of Mortis mod, it's a blast on multiplayer or for challenging quests.

Is it (Dis3) any better that HOMM3 you ask? No, not by a mile. Dis2 is just too different a game to compare, but I like it better than HOMM.

@Crni: Interestingly, the russian voices for Metro were surprisingly good, better than usual, and really fit the atmosphere. I loved the narrator voice, especially.

well the english voice was acceptable. Nothing outstanding. But standart I would say. Which is ok. Really.

They just did a extremly crapy job with the German voice. Maybe that somewhat made me a bit biased (not liking so much any of the voice acting). But if I would only play the with German voices no thx ... which I tried after I finished half of the game just for the fun and after it I realised how good the english ones are actually compared to them.
