Dishonored 2

I wonder if Bethesda will muck it up somehow, will probably have an expensive season pass. On the upside atleast it won't have microtransactions like nu-Deus Ex. I'll wait for a sale or something though, I want to give Bethesda the least amount of money possible and because I'm cautious.

Reviews are out (and rushing thanks to Bethesda's policy)

Seems Bugthesda got their claws into the QA testing

So I was digging through the forums for potential performance fixes and dug up one everybody seems to have skimmed over, as there are no replies - Every time the game is alt-tabbed from, and every time you go through a loading screen (after leavintg the main menu) the task manager process priority class is set automatically to low. This is what's causing a lot of the awful dips.

Basically the game is trying to run on half a cpu because of being on a really low priority. I loaded into the 3rd or 4th mission a moment ago, set to ultra - I was getting 35-45fps, set the priority, game instantly shot up 10-15 fps and no longer experiences massive drop.

Unfortunately this work-around is only temporary, unless somebody knows a way to force process priority in task manager permanently - in which case I'd love to know how.

The good news is though that the vast majority of performance issues can be fixed with a very easy patch.

Oh boy performance issues, sounds like every AAA title release today that needs a day one patch just to make it playable.

Why is it triple-A gaming now requires day 1 patches for everything these days? Whatever happened to QA testing and releasing playable (no patch required) games at launch?

Damn. I've got that R7 listed third from the bottom. My system would choke on this, though given what I'm seeing with my XBOX One rental, I couldn't see why beyond optimization issues. Textures look like shit, I've seen at least one bug per mission, usually AI related like them spotting me outside their vision cones or around objects...

And to top it all off, this game makes the same mistakes as the original did, and trying to play Pure Stealth, I.E. no Outsider Powers, is a chore without the mechanics that made Thief so good.

Oh, no joke. Dishonored 2 requires a 9.1 GIG Day 1 patch. Took me one day's rental to download that, along with the 43.25 GIGs the game takes up, for what reason I don't know. This game doesn't feel like it needs that much space.

O.o What kind of QA testing is going on there if that much is needed in a Day 1 patch?

Already there are reviews recommending against getting Dishonored 2 at launch due to some of the bugs (audio I hear is the worst offender, reaching game breaking levels or so I've heard) and blimey... that's a lot of disk space used up. Is the game any good though despite all that?

You got me, but it's near Capcom levels of bad programming. Remember Dead Rising 3? 13 GIG patch.

So far, I'm playing without Outsider Powers, and I did notice that leaning is not a cheating mode peek anymore so enemies will see you if you use it. Difficulty is a joke since it only affects perception and damage, not AI or something similar. Emily's powers, from what I've seen, are more varied/numerous than Corvo, so by picking her, you essentially knock the difficulty down by one level. Bugs are still an issue after that patch; I've seen NPCs get stuck in objects, had them spot me behind cover or before turning a corner, and quick-saves/loads sometimes won't reset stats, so my Non-Lethal run was ruined by a kill I made before quick-loading.

And then there's Stephen Russell as Gar...I mean, Corvo. His voice throws me off every time, and keeps reminding me that I should keep playing The Dark Mod and Shadows of the Metal Age.

Seriously, it's not worth $60. $40, sure.

D2 isn't a particularly long game, and it has some major performance issues, but the general gameplay/plot are otherwise pretty fun, and better then the first.

IMO.

Also DAUD!!!!!!

Robin Lord Taylor.
Yeah. It's grown on me, but they nailed it in the first game.

He was detached from your world, and was sarcastic and made jabs against you. He never made threats, but his power was way above yours to the point were he was threatening. Every so often there'd be curiosity or even sick excitement in his voice that he would quickly hide. He was otherworldly but with human mannerisms, which fit his lore (he was sacrificed by cultists and became part of the Void).

Is there a light gem or audio feedback(footsteps)? If not then that's sad cause Thief The Dark Project had those features 18 years ago. That's why I didn't care much for the first game, bad stealth game that had less features then the first two Thief games. I can only imagine that Razorfist is going to tear this game apart even more brutally than he did with the first.

I'd argue aside from the technical issues it's a must buy. The world feels alive, combat is fluid, there's deep lore. The story, whilst still simple isn't as... "exposition heavy" as the first game and dialogue feels much better.

I don't know why people are overreacting about the bugs. It took me 15 minutes of tweaking to get 60fps on high graphics (there's very high and ultra) with rat shadows and v-sync turned off, and setting Dishonored 2 to high priority in task manager. @AgentBJ09 maybe try this?

No visual bugs or audio bugs. I have a gtx 770 so it's not high end. I don't want to be a blind fanboy, so I'm willing to assume I got lucky with fixing it. I hope the devs fix the problems others are having, I think the game is great- at its current state not goty material. If it were running as smooth as the first Dishonored it would definitely be up there.

I agree they Nailed it in the first game . I was just pointing out he sounds like a Batman villain because he is a batman villain.
