Didn't you say you lived in Los Angeles Smack? Isn't nearly *all* of the water LA receives from the Colorado River, which is reduced to a trickle by the time is reaches the ocean because greedy cities soak it all up? Or did you say San Diego? I can't remember..

A sad remnant of the Soviet Era... The USA had a ship ready to help out only something like 200 miles away from that sub, just waiting for word from the Russian government to let them help, and this was at the time the sub actually went down.

Pride should never be a factor when your countrymen are on the line.

One thing nice about the USA is that they will help out *any* country that requests aid, unconditionally. Whether or not that country requests the aid is another matter.

If I knew what "chuckmek" meant I still probably wouldn't call you that. Is it a sort of racial slurr in Russia?

Make sure you don't rape them *after* you flay them. :)

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Sep-13-00 AT 09:02AM (GMT)[p]I don't take offense because we have people from Russia or what used to be known as the USSR here. Nor do I take offense because it's quite sick.

I guess I take offense because I put a good deal of time in the US Navy. Yes, US. You might ask what the hell being in the US Navy would have to do with this, but you have to understand a LOT of the common courtesies and ethics shared by many countries around the world. Unspoken, and really not documented, it's just...traditions. The navy.mil site has some of the stuff as pertaining to some traditions, but that's not even a hundredth, not in the least.

Anyhow, I digress.

As a Naval JNCO (not the jeans, to clear that up before I have to kick someone's ass - means Junior Non-Commissioned Officer, a flowery and almost inane term for a Petty Officer) I have been familiarized with a lot of the traditions and courtesies that have been observed by the US and other countries.

I can tell you for a fact that any old salt, or anyone in the USN who knows the proper traditions, honors those who were in the submarine. It's a hazardous job, and when it's in peace-time when something like this happens, then everyone tries to help out. Whether the offer is taken or not, that is irrelevant. Sailors know the risks of their jobs, and give each other respect due to members of a shared profession, regardless of "side". The British and the US are a couple that observe this the most strongly, despite a rather messy scuffle about 200 years ago.

I could tell you that any sailor at a command that is run well who makes a joke like that, or any scoff at the predicament of those trapped, probably got a severe reprimand, or a little secret "attitude readjustment seminar*.

Marines and Armies hardly have anywhere as much traditions as the Navies, so I think you can kind of understand the slight comradeship those of a dangerous and often fatal profession share (even when not in battle, which the only thing the Army has to worry about is getting run over by a hummer by accident, whereas in the Navies, the whole job is dangerous, from shipboard maintenance to operational checks). Even US Navy ships have fatalities and mishaps, and quite often at times. The Shitty Kitty (Kitty Hawk, thank whatever is holy I never was aboard that PoS) had for a while the largest amount of mishaps, then I believe it was some DDG. It's a dangerous job, but in some cases fun and interesting.

I guess it's something you have to observe to understand.

I said 20 minutes from San Fran is you were paying attention. 20 mins gets you up into the Sierras (almost), where houses cost between $2million and $6million.

Ehh... Eastern Russia is siberia, and near the pacific. So that would be west of the Ural mts.
Western Russia (west of the Urals) is Eastern Europe.

+teenage 'gangs' (it was quieter 2 years ago when I left because a lot of folks were in jail), massive unemployment since factory had to close because of a terrible fire ~4 years ago, a mayor in disagreement with state's president and all over pretty things.

'Chukcha'-a name for a specific tribe/tribe member from Siberia. Dumbest thing people (Russians) said about other people (Chukchas and others) who have accent is call them 'stupid'. It makes me sick - if I have an accent when speaking English, I'm stupid too?
'Mek'-I guess it's a reference to all Asians. Like, a man from Uzbekistan is called Uzbek, from Turkmenistan - Turkmen.

No, if I'll rape them AFTER I flay them, it'll hurt them more. >:--) Sick, but no sicker than calling names.

Kind of like the white trash rednecks calling African-Americans inferior.. at least the African-Americans don't *inbreed*. I tell, you it is the hypocrites that look the dumbest.

Siberia, Northern Russia - whatever. Where do you think they are - Ukraine?! That's not the point.
And I know it's not funny.

*shouts at the top of his voice* HEY!!!

Um...hi.

May I not that this conversation is not only pointless, it is also derogatory and disrespectful. Just a suggestion: Drop the whole matter. Remember, 't was nationalism that started WW 1.

Yes, I know a number of you are only kidding, but these subjects are very sensetive for some people.

If I am wrong, shout at me, if I am right, stop.

RE: *shouts at the top of his voice* HEY!!!

Uh... What are you referring to? Jim Bob's 'joke' (btw, he apologized for it), Xotor's reference to 'white rednecks' or 'my' worms? Something else maybe?

Yeah, why don't we just set period right now. I apologize again for my childish behavior, but i really couldn't imagine the consequences of my post when i posted it. I think i have got the point now, there's no use in every single person on this board calling me a low-life.

Stop here?
