Ingmar Bergman, a swedish film and theater director and writer, died today. I can't really relate to him though (haven't really read/watched his works yet) but people in the industry seem to celebrate him as a genius. Might have some catching up to do there.

Here's a list of his achievements:

Rest in peace old man. You deserve it.

what a bummer.
Seventh Seal, ya. I remember the film being funnier than I thought it would be. Some great images- the flaggellants, the girl that will be burnt at the stake for causing the plague. Pretty good and not at all as high brow as I expected.

That's sad. I really like this guy's films. Seventh Seal is the one everyone watches in film class, but Fanny and Alexander is my favorite.

To be honest, when news of this reached me, I was kind of surprised...I thought he was already dead.

Still, a genius and a master of the art of film-making. He will be missed.

same here (to both statements).

I never got his movies, really. All I can remember was some very un-attractive young woman slicing her pussy up like a steak.
In an artistic way, of course, that didn't turn into your-average-day-on-the-internets.
