Dog meat is useless, Giant Radscorpian on the otherhand...

Hobo In A Box

First time out of the vault
Is it possible to make a mod to have other animals as companions, I know I've seen a scavenger with a pet yao guai's so it's got to be possible to replace Dog meat with one.

Wouldn't you prefer having a pet that has some health and does some good damage, unless your going for a bloat fly.

Hm i know what you mean im just saying Animal Friend would be required to have other pet than stupid mutt...or you could buy one from scavange like robot....

Hm... Some perks already unlock new dialogue options... So would it be too hard with the GECK to modify the second rank of Animal Friend to allow you to keep up to one animal at a time as a 'pet' and port over the AI and commands for Dogmeat to any pet?

Dogmeat is useless but I think you're overselling the other animals - Dogmeat has 500 HP and good DR. Yao Guai only has 220 HP and its DR is inferior. Damage is superior obviously, at 75 (I'm not sure what Dogmeat does but it isn't 75), but expect the Yao Guai to drop dead once every fight.

Dogmeat isn't supposed to be useful as an offensive tool. He's supposed to distract enemies (they always turn their attention to him first, the game's programmed like that) and then soak up bullets.

The only creature that might be as useful as Dogmeat is the Deathclaw, who has 500 HP and does 100 damage, but that's not an animal.

Well, you could perhaps make a sub-quest where you encounter a deathclaw mind-controlled by the Enclave and that you can take over by grabbing the controls from a scientist

I'm just saying Deathclaws aren't classified as animals under Animal Friend, so it wouldn't make sense to connect it to that perk. The only other true damage-soaker (other than the Behemoth) is the Mirelurk Hunter, also not an animal.

Having a Behemoth as a companion would be a bit overkill.

I would guess there is no "animal" class but rather Animal Friend has a group of IDs it works on, and you can just add death claws, but I dunno about that. No doubt the modders will figure it out.

I'm just saying that if you want to add a mod that makes sense within the gameworld it's best to stick with the existing definition of animal. Hence my alternative idea for deathclaws

I forgot about radscorpions; now they're real damage soakers. The Giant Radscorpion has 350 HP and massive DR, while his stinger does 60 damage with 40 dam/5 sec poison.

Well Deathclaw arent animals exactly in F2 they could talk on in Navarro and Goris as companion...how ever in FT all of them talked :)

And actually look graphically decent. Dog meat is a different skin from wolfs in oblivion.

But anyway, doesn't really matter about the DR or damage they cause, I just want something that looks cooler, realism isn't allowed to come into this when the the antagonizer is still alive.

Me too and? 1 shot with combat shot gun and yo gi is dead not so good pet :)

Any way animals should atacke in groups...imagine 3-5 yo gi bears :)

Having a pack brahmin you could load up with crap would be nice.

And yea, I was sort of disapointed how weak the "pet" yao guai were. Though I did meet one wandering around the ruins outside of the Nuka Cola plant on my first playthrough. I was about to shoot him when I noticed the green marker and when I got close he was labeled "scavengers yao guai." His master must have been dead because he was no where in sight. Occasionaly FO3 does give you the feeling that things happen in the world that have nothing to do with your character and those moments are nice even though they're rare.

Actually that's how the "Radiant AI" is programmed. No matter what you're doing or where you are, everything in the gameworld is still being processed at some level. The catch is the processing works on several tiers of complexity. This is also why npcs actually run out into the wastes if they're supposed to get to you, or go somewhere and do something.
