Dogmeat & K-9

No, in Fallout 2 World Map center and east of the map is totally empty, thats why I consider Reno/Broken Hills center. Close to every city.
Why I didn't left them in New Reno? For me, companions at least deserve for quiet location. :)

Quiet, I'll give you. But I never considered Broken Hills at all "center" because of its position on the east-most edge of the map. But Redding's fairly quiet AND centered..... if you can ignore the pervasive smell of brahmin shit, of course. =)

In my most recent games, however, I just started leaving them in New Reno. Mostly because "they" were only Myron, and the little fucker could rot for all I cared, so long as I got my free carry-weight-reduction-chem-manufacturing services taken care of! ^^

Other things you need to ignore:
Wanamingos creeping in local mines
miners cutting prostitutes (fuck yeah, Clint Eastwood reference)
bar brawls
runaway gangsters hiding in local ruins and wastes around the city
the town being a disputed area in a subtle quasi-diplomatic war between NCR and New Reno

After ignoring all these, Redding seems a really quiet place indeed

Eh, background noise! (And don't forget Vault City!) But if you gotta leave them to stay put, within the borders of the town, above ground, that place will lull them to sleep! Compared to New Reno, however, where gunshots are just part of the "ambiance", and I can imagine that plenty of my companions would be a tad unnerved if I just left them there... XD

K-9

I don't know whether it's because I enjoy dogs but the dogs of FO I do basically enjoy just because they act so much like dogs. I don't mean any disrespect to Per Jorner but i disagree with his negative assessment of Dogmeat & K-9 in his justly celebrated walkthrough. Hits & kills by those 2 dogs have thrilled me more than any others I have seen I think. One day I sat in amazement as I watched Dogmeat & K-9 join together to kill a Floater all by themselves with no outside help. I liked that because I particularely hate those nasty Floaters.

But today I saw a kill that virtually took my breath away. K-9, all by himself, made an 85 point critical hit on a Centaur & killed it. I don't know if a previous hit by firepower had been made on it or not.

Believe it or not. But I do have a screenshot of it.

and they uses melee
in Arcanum, dog is one of the strongest companion in Arcanum.
it's because there are little enemy fight in distant and there's dodge skill.

Not Useless

The dogs in FO are from being "useless" as has been claimed. Not only are they capable of making significant hits on the enemy & even kills, but at the very least they draw the enemy's attention away from you.

I always wind up with the pooches in my party.
Then I usually drop them off in San Francisco, in neat formation, by the entrance.

Hah! Sounds like what i did back in the early 2xxx's. I got all the companions and dumped of the ones i never used at the entrance of San Fran.
I'm beginning to think this might be an unspoken rule to many (if not all) of us... =)

Due to the ammount of cash you get in F2 i also tend to fill the street with power armors! I guess i might be the only one doing that

and you have to earn money by killing people for that at Fo2

Just hope for 1-3 good random encounters with people killing eachother and you are good to go.

Or steal everything!

Thankfully they are a bit harder to come by in F1 and tactics.

but doesn't just a waste of time?
if you don't use tgm or something carrying power armor would be labor.
