DOOM 2016 SinglePlayer Preview

how's Fear, never that game anymore for a while

The first game is great, one of my favorite fps's. The second game was good. The third largely forgetable. It's been a long time since I played 2 and 3 though so my memory may be blurred.

As far as reboot of an fps that "does it right" how about Shadow Warrior. That game was able to capture some of the feel of 90's pc shooter titles of yore. It also had a viable sword option that was a viable option well through that entire game and handled nicely.

Oh yeah, that game was nicely done. Proper reboot/remake. There aren't many games that can pull it off that well, often enough it's just a nostalgia cashgrab paintjob on a boring modern shooter.

I've seen some recent gameplay videos from the Codex and this game looks like dog shit. The character moves so slowly, it looks like it's trying too hard with the gore kills, chainsaw initiates a cinematic camera along with the gore kills, and some other stuff.
Also why are there only like two colors as opposed to the original Doom? The had to make the pickups colorful so they would stand out in the bland environments.

The chainsaw is a limited use insta-kill weapon now. Classic, innit?

The ending sums things up pretty well. I love how the one kid who played the original is the one who doesn't seem very impressed with the reboot.

you dont play fps on controller

keyboard and mouse is the right marketing tool to show how fast is your games

they learned the lesson

P.S: it run on 180 fps!

What a difference it makes in the footage. Now that looks much more like a game I'd enjoy.

Ugh, I gave in. Having promised myself never to purchase a Bethesda game at full price again, I feel dirty. But I've gone from having absolutely zero interest in DOOM to mild curiosity and now a strong will to play it.

We'll see if I wasted my money on Beth yet again.

Been playing for a few hours now and I'm impressed. It's fun as hell (hah) and feels so smooth and... just great. Zero drops in fps, guns have a great feel to them, movement speed is just fast enough. I complained about the visual aspects before, but I even find it looks great now when I actually play it myself. I still find the enemy designs boring and generic as fuck, but oh well.

Looking at gameplay absolutely did not convery to me how fun it actually is to play.

oh you expect hell inhabitant to be like shapeless entity like DS3 Saint of the deep?

Hehe, that'd be a bit more original at least.

But seriously, they could have had a lot more fun with the designs. I do appreciate that they used all the classic enemies, but even the original designs were more... well, original. The cyborg stuff, for example. I loved that. We're talking things from a different dimension here, why do they all have to look so generic?

the problem is, that is the actual intention. from the very codex entry to the how satanic marking and pentagram being abundant, the doom art is very likely based on dante inferno's hell. like the volcanic landscape, how doomguy being refference as Beings empowered by energy to guard hell and serving the what most likely a collective being that christian called as Angels. so instead, of hell being a place beyond of comprehension that drives you nutt, hell is place that draw your inner fear through judgement of bad people, false habit and regretness. and what antagonist we got? a ruthless megacorporation that punished by their own greediness through hell inhabitant.

It's definitely a lot of fun. Refreshingly old school in a lot of ways (like in numbers of fucks given by the Doomguy, which is a dead zero at all times).
I like it quite a bit so far. Much more like Doom 1 and 2 than Doom 3 in terms of gameplay and atmosphere.
