E-mail Virus Warning.

First time out of the vault
I got a e-mail in my outlook express from someone unknown with an attachment added. Norton decteced them as virus', so I'm so far safe. They came from jogi@netads.de and other variations. So far, I've got 3 of them, and if you all get them, DELETE THERE AND THEN!!!

This is absolutely useless.
Why? Because:
A) You gave us no info whatsoever except that it came from "jogi@netads.de"(And, unless I'm mistaken, this means absolutely nothing because usually viruses will self-mail from infected computers). And there are other mail addresses from whence it can come as well. Wow. So you give us one mail-address in total to look out for. Goodie!
B) Details about the virus? Anything? At all? Maybe a name, or a description of the virus or whatever?
C) How about a reality check. Do you have any clue how many viruses there are circulating around the net? Do you think this will help at all?
D) And how could we possibly get rid of it? Any links about it?

In conclusion: What.the.fuck? You gave NO details whatsoever, and the only actually useful thing from your post (Norton detects it) is immediately useless, because that's what a virusscanner is supposed to do.
 
Yep, already got about thirty of them. Just random virus spam, it happens.
 
Well it was nice to give a warning anyway. Awareness is always a good thing :)

I just want to know who feels the need to sit and write a virus anyway..
strange people.

While it is nice to give warnings, any moron who's used that thar interweb should know not to open attachments from someone they don't know. Should, being the key word...

I guess, for future reference, when warning about a virus, you'll want to actually tell us the name of the virus (Norton should give you some funky name, like w32.YaHa or something like that), and give links for more information for the virus. Just giving us an email address, which probably doesn't even exist; even if it does, the person who owns it probably didn't send it, as email viruses send themselves most of the time.

So, yeah. Nice try ;)
 
I love the "why r u sending me viruses?" e-mails I've been getting lately. Some intahnettahs are so ignorant.

I also love the whole "don't use Kazaa, you could get a virus, lol"-thing that's supposed to discourage people from downloading music (music, for Christ's sake)

Then there are the people (like one of my friends) who download Norton Antivirus from mIRC.
 
Let's suppose that everyone here receives a strange message with "virus" or any indication that it has a virus. Everyday I receive at least three messages with attachment from someone with a names like " Mary Poppin 23234324324abc" or " Mary Poppin 23432324324abc" or " Mary Poppin 23234324324abc".

If I post here a message about that we are going to have here at one post everyday. Since everyday 12 lost souls visit this forum we are going to have at least 12 posts about that. If these people are going to post just one time. But if they are going to post here everytime they saw a virus we are going to have 36 posts everyday just about that. I think what Jazz_Fascist did was nice but if more people do the same thing we are going to have a huge problem here.

That's all for now. I just received an e-mail from this chick called Mary Poppin 23434324324abc. Hmmmm..... There is an attach with pics from her holyday in a nude camp. I don't think anything bad can happen if I take a peep. :P

Well, I would be the first to say that what you posted was incredibly useless, but someone already beat me to it. Again, Norton detects it and it comes via e-mail attachment. That could be anything from Happy99 to one of the versions of VBS_SLUG, or one of the MANY virii that take someone's addy book and sends the virus to all of them, then attaches someone's addy to the virus. So now you look foolish because the person who sent it might not have been "jogi@netads.de" in the first place.

Hell, there's been enough people with Odin's e-mail and my own that virii would routinely pop up from someone using Pacbell or often another States provider, but with Odin's addy or my own. The same goes for pretty much anyone who has had an e-mail account for some time and had to deal with people using unsecure e-mail programs, the same people who end up spreading them. I routinely get about 20-40 virii e-mails a week, which is amusing since I use a client that displays everything in plain text.

Other than that, thank you for warning people like Rebel that there's virii being sent about the internet. :P
 
Only stupid people, who have been at the net for about half an hour total, open unknown attachments anyway...
