England, Gurkha, and Fallout lore questions.

First time out of the vault
I'm a stickler for lore, so I want an RP playthrough i'm setting up to be as close to accurate as possible within the Fallout universe.

I want to roleplay a Vault Dweller with Gurkha ancestory. Perhaps of the Brigade of the British army, since as a Brit I know more about it than I do the US.

However, it brings up a few questions I don't have the answers to in-universe.

Is England still an ally of the US as of when the bombs fell?

Is it even mentioned what the US political relationship with Nepal is? With China being just next door, and it being South Asia, i'd imagine if they are even mentioned anywhere that anyone with Asian appearance would be looked at as a suspected Chinese spy. In the Fallout universe they might even have been fully swallowed by China long ago.

Last of all, can anyone help me with thinking up a reason that the player characters ancestor would be in a Vault for, in America, with Asian ancestry? Because i'm drawing a blank.

I would appreciate help; and speculation if there is no official lore on some these things.

From what I know, is that Europe was known as the European commonwealth before the war. I don't know whether or not the commonwealth was friendly with the US or not, but they didn't like the middle east.

It's the sad truth, really, with our government secretly stealing our money and never paying back. It's gonna bite them in the ass one day.

Glad to see the thread got some actvity, but I don't suppose anyone has any information I might find useful, you know, relating to my questions? :P

I suppose you could read through all the lore-articles in the Vault Wiki, like here:
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_world
But the games didn't give much detail about the world outside the US, so I don't think you'll find very much for your questions there.

I second that and strongly encourage you to read everything that site has to offer. Not a whole lot is known about the pre-war relationships that you are asking about. It can be assumed that Europe was busy worrying about the uprising in it's neck of the woods instead of bothering with the U.S. When you ask about Asian ancestry in vaults I automatically think of San Francisco from Fallout 2. Nepal is never mentioned directly in Fallout lore. Communism was a major threat to the U.S and I'm sure China grabbed up a lot of land in the Great War, so you have a lot to work with. Sorry if I couldn't be much help.

I'll have a read thanks. I appreciate the information. The fact that it isn't really covered helps, since I can make assumptions safely. :)

I guess it depends on how far back are you willing to trace back this ancestry. A Gurkha soldier might have well been a liason of the British armed forces in the US during WWII, and might have settled there afterwards, so it is perfectly possible. But by 2077, I would imagine the US would have been quite isolationist, so I don't suppose he could be an immigrant - but there is a possibility of him being from Canada, which might have still been a British ally prior to being annexed by the US

What I always got from Fallout 1 and 2 was that history was pretty much the same as our universe up until this second nuclear arms race where that retro 50's style came back into fashion.
Fallout 3 goes and craps all over that theory with it's alternate moon landing story, though it's probably pretty safe to ignore that.

I think the Brits would be on good terms up until the US starts making unilateral decisions like the Annexation of Canada. I'm sure the Brits would be bitter about that.

There are British characters in Fallout, which would lead me to believe that before the bombs fell, maybe there were Brits coming to the US, thinking it would be a safer bet for surviving a war. So great enough numbers that the accents wouldn't fade in the generation or two between the war and the events in the first game.
But it's all speculative, I doubt it's ever been established as to why their are Brits around.
